Real Epic 4G release date

You have to wonder how much buisness sprint is losing because they priced this at $250.

Very true. I think they know the people that already have service with them are going to buy it no matter what. But like many have said new customers might be turned off.

That would be great if they did that. You would have to wonder how much business Sprint Stores would lose if Best Buy did this.

I would be very surprised if it was 199. I am wondering something else about best buy. They usually have their off contract price way higher than what sprint sells it for. So with that in mind and there is only a 100.00 rebate, they will have to make their instant savings higher to bring the price to the 249.99. I guess thats how they always do it. I guess they can't sell it for more than 249.99, could they? I have to purchase through best buy because I have $150.00 in reward money.

Like I mentioned on the other forum. When the announcement was first made Sprint had the 20th advertised on the website as well. It was meant to be the 31st for whatever reason. People posted about it, even showing screenshots. Unfortunately it is "Officially" the 31st.

here is the actual text sent 2day - I'm fully aware of the release date I've pre-ordered from Best Buy.

SprintFreeMsg: The Samsung Epic 4G is almost here. Get your mobile entertainment at 4G speeds. Visit Samsung Epic 4G for details. Reply END to stop.

Interesting info... I did not receive the email for the 31st but am a Sprint Premier customer. So I did the digging, followed a link, and had my pre-order in for the 8/31 release date by 7:15AM yesterday morning. My friend did receive the email and was able to pre-order direct from the link in his email (both of us are Premier customers). The funny part is that while I did not receive the email (and did pre-order anyway), I did receive a text about the Epic from Sprint today. My friend did not.

I received the text stating that the Epic 4G is almost here (same text others have mentioned in this thread). It includes this link:

Samsung Epic 4G

If you follow the link and then on the page that comes up, click on "availability" it clearly states 8/20 for launch.

I have spoken with local reps but they are just as confused as I am. Until this text I had not seen any "official" announcements from Sprint showing a date other than the 31st. And they only went "official" on that date as of late night 8/11 or early 8/12. So I have now seen two very "official" statements from Sprint... originally the one for the 8/31 launch... but this morning... for 8/20.

WTF? Does anyone actually know what is happening regarding this launch? For that matter; does Sprint even know what they are going to do? Very frustrating!!!!

Didn't see Aug 20 anywhere on that page. Omgwtfbbq?

they probably based that number on internals from sever differential of demand to supply on EVO and perhaps only moderate supply of Epic. For example, if they expected Evo to be in less supply than demand for the next few months it makes perfect sense to price the Epic at $250.
They can and do change the discount amounts over time, although more likely brightpoint prices get changed first.

As far as the release date, a single hard and fast hard and fast date for availability with every single channel (their stores, third party stores, bright point, business account resellers) is more the exception than the rule.

I remember seeing Aug 20 under "availability" this morning after I got the txt from sprint as well. However It would seem that they have silently updated the website to show Aug 31... :(
