Really Annoying! Overheat then loss of signal

So after speaking with VZW tech level 2 and repeating that I suddenly lose all data and drop out of a voice call, they say that they are expecting an update to address this (We all know this already). Here is how I've now noticed it happens. I had my phone (naked) in my pocket and felt it getting hot. I take the phoen out and noticed that the data just went blank. This lasted around 40 seconds then I gave up waiting and rebooted the phone and all was well. Has anyone else noticed that the phone gets suddenly hot and connectivity goes? I'm calling VZW tomorrow and asking them for a new one. They will obviously try to get me a refurb, which I won't accept and will otherwise just return it and see what comes out over the next month or so. I like this phone, but this is not acceptable. What would you do? replace it with a new one? does his sound like a bad phone or the connectivity issue others are experiencing? Can the overheating be related to the phone searching for a signal?

I've experiences the same on 2 phones now. I was hoping it was just that first phone, but the second brand new phone they gave me did the same. No problems at all when it is just in 3G. I was also told the same (that a SW fix is coming) by the store rep, but I'm skeptical and thinking about returning it soon.
