So I've trying to transition from my iPhone to my S8 and I'm having issues with texting. On my phone it doesn't matter how long the text is or whether it comes from an iPhone or an Android, the texts come as one single message. Whether short or long. On my S8 the messages are broken up and not always in order. I've got the setting enabled to reassemble broken texts into one, but that's not doing it. It's incredibly frustrating to have to read my texts out of order. Especially when I know this feature exists on my iPhone. What am I doing wrong?

And any recommendations on a keyboard that has auto correct that's as smooth as the iPhone? I used Swiftkey for Android in the past.

I don't see any setting in mine to allow full texts. When mine goes over a certain number of characters, I think it's about 300, there's a "view all" note at the bottom of the text that I tap. Opens a second screen and the whole text is then viewable

Here is the setting I've got that implies I should be able view long texts as one message.

I can't help you with the stock SMS app. But one of the first things I do on a new phone is install Textra and Yaata SMS apps (I jump between them). You could just try using a different app.

As for the keyboard, go either Swiftkey or Gboard.

I also recommend Textra and Gboard. Both work great for me.

Might also depend on how it was sent to you. I know there's a method where when over 160 characters, the message gets split into multiple 153 character messages with the remaining characters being used to keep the message together.

What I think could be happening is that multiple 160 character messages are being sent.

Yeah I tested sending a long message from my iPhone and it completely disassembled it and made it difficult to understand because it was all out of order. It's too bad because I sent that same message to my iPhone from my S8 and it was received like one long message rather than broken up.

I recommend downloading Gboard and Android Messages. Those two apps combined let you do a lot more in the texting department.

I don't have that. Must be a carrier thing.

It's possible. I have Verizon and I use Verizon Messages+ and I can receive long texts in one message. However, if somebody who is not a Verizon customer sends me a long text, it is broken in to smaller messages. It can be confusing sometimes when I get the second or third part of the message before the first part.

I wouldn't be installing that Swiftkey on your S8 it's known to cause freezing up of the device, there is a post I answered the other day still a live post a few down, that dude was having freezing issuses until he deleted Swiftkey.

Sorry it's on another site but here's his last post.

"I did a lot of research and found out that a lot of other people are having the same problem. Someone on the Samsung forums suggested that it could be caused by Swiftkey. I deleted it and switched to Gboard and I haven't had a random freeze or reset in almost two weeks."

SwiftKey has always worked fine for me but never tried Gboard.
Somehow I don't think OP issue with broken long texts is connected with the keyboard used.

I've downloaded Verizon Messages on my unlocked phone(I use it with a Verizon Straight Talk sim) but haven't switched over from stock yet. It looks like it's really customizable. Stock app is pretty boring. Going to play with it Thursday when I'm off work. I'll seen if it does the broken text thing on my phone then.

That auto-combination tweak is not a solution. Sounds like it would be, however, the messages are often broken up and not in order. I just switched back to Texta. Should work like a charm I would think from what I read so far.
