Received a phone call today that left no trace - bizarre?

As I was riding my bike to work, my phone rang in my backpack. I didn't look at it nor answer as I was riding. Upon arrival, I looked at my phone, and there was nothing - no notification dot, no call under "recents," no voice mail. Nothing indicated the phone had received a call.

Is that a strange glitch or possibly the latest in spam/spoof calling tactics? Now, in hindsight, I wish I had looked at the phone when it rang to see what was displayed on the screen.

Are you certain you heard it ringing? I've heard of cases of phantom ringing/notifications perceived by the user that never happened. I've experienced it myself. For example, my phone could be sitting on a desk beside me doing nothing, and I'd swear I felt a notification vibration in the pocket I normally carry it in.

I've only heard of phantom vibrations

I figured it out. It was a call that came through WhatsApp. I didn't know that WhatsApp can be used to make voice calls, and since I'm on a limited data plan, I won't use WA for voice calls anyway. On top of that, apparently WA is set to use the same ringtone as for calls coming in over the phone network, so I was tricked into believing it was just a regular phone call. Again, I didn't look at the phone when it rang since it was in my backpack.

Glad you got it figured out and aren't going crazy like some of us. Lol

I don't use apps for voice calls or even have WhatsApp, so never would've thought about that.
