Receiving pictures, quality is bad?

For some reason, when I receive pictures from other people in a text message, their pictures are always grainy and low resolution it seems like. It shouldn't be the phone, because I received pictures from an iPhone 6, and a Lg G2, and the pictures are very bad quality. I was just wondering if maybe this is happening to other people, and if there's maybe a way to fix it?

My understanding is when you send a picture via MMS it gets compressed even further than a jpeg to save data. It's probably degradation because of that.
