recent app button not working

Hello for some reason my recent apps button stop working anyone know how to get back to working?

when was the last time it worked properly?
have you changed any settings after that?
have you installed/disabled any apps since?
try switching the phone off for 5-10 minutes
this is all assuming there is no physical damage to the button/phone itself
