Recent apps that haven't been used.

After the last Android update (I'm now on 10) I'm seeing apps displayed on the recent listing that I haven't used!
If I scroll upward from the home screen this is/was the first line of icons displayed. It is separated from the alphabetical listing wit a bar.
I'm hoping I'm misunderstanding what I'm seeing. Did 10 include something else into that list? Or had something dire happened to my phone???

If I understood correctly you mean the 'Suggested apps' in the app drawer and not the Recent app overview. Try this, just in case, long press an empty spot on the home screen - home settings - suggestions - switch it off.

Right, the Suggested Apps are determined by your usage pattern. No hacking or malfunctioning going on.
