Just picked up another phone, long time At&t customer. Are the floor people being told to PUSH accessories?? I went in to get a phone, wanted it to be quick so I can be on my way! While logging into my phone and transferring data from old phone salesperson brings a STACK of cases, he also had a Bluetooth speaker he took out of the box and demonstrated and then the Samsung smartwatch...wtf is going on I thought to myself?

Upon entering a local AT&T retail store, all of the sales persons were standing around doing nothing (8 total) clearly too many sales reps at this location.. Anyway when I asked them about other ways to connect to the net using different options like hotspots.. they acted like they had no clue as to what I was talking about.. even laughing at me at one point.. Clearly everything is sales based and not customer support based.. they only way these places can survive is by pushing other devices (that happen to be hot in their view) just to get that bonus check from AT&T or the company their pushing the device/accessory for.

There's always a push to get accessories sold... there is a TON of margin on those things. A carrier can end up making far more profit from selling a case, a screen protector and maybe an extra charger or two than the phone itself.

I know this field is mostly, if not completely, commission sales. And I would not be at all surprised if accessories are a higher percentage than phones.

Sales people are there to.. well .. sell. That is what they're trained and paid to do. I expect them to try and offer a few things whenever I go but I just politely decline. The bad sales people are the ones who can't give up and keep pressuring a ton after saying no. That is why I stand my ground and be a little more stern. Most of the ones (T-Mobile) that I deal with around me don't push hard. After a no or two they stop.

As with sex.. One NO should have been sufficient enough to get someone's attention.. No Means No.. plain and simple.

I usually don't act like I am window shopping in the stores and no one has ever tried to sell me something that I didn't ask about.. Perhaps it's my demeanor... Lol
