I know it wasn't listed, did the update improve reception or call quality?

Neither for me but they didn't really promise call quality or reception improvement. Seems like they didn't add any fixes that weren't in the pdf. For me they prioritized the easy stuff but not the most critical, like gps and the bad "reverb" in the earpiece when you talk.

So I'm not the only one noticing some weird voice quality issues? I find that if I speak above a whisper, I hear my own voice with distortion back through the speaker. I like overdrive on my guitar, but not on my phone...

You may want to check the phone settings and make sure that voice privacy is not checked. I did that when I got mine initially and it minimized the voice quality issues, but the update yesterday rechecked the box so I had to uncheck it again.

Voice Privacy was checked - I'll take it off and see if that helps.
