Reception issues?

U know, i think it has! I dont think it was ever a reception issue. I think it was a bar indicator issue. But looking at it lately, it does appear to be more stable now

This is very true. Bars mean nothing. I can make and receive calls even though I live in a marginal signal area.

I've had my Dinc2 for a week now and I've got less than stellar reception. I seem to have better reception at work than I do at home. I also live in a basement apartment which makes the reception worse. My blackberry Bold worked great unless I was facing a window. It didn't matter if the window was behind me but the minute I faced the window it would drop the call. I love this phone even with the not so stellar battery life but I need the signal to be better. I guess the real test would be up in the mountains where by Bold worked like a pro.

I get great reception, fast data speeds and around 20 hrs battery with my inc2. I am in western ny. Beats out my d1 and Fascinate in reception performance and battery. Did you guys try a factory reset after the ota update? Also there are antennas in the battery door. Make sure it is seated properly. Also there may be a rogue app causing battery drain like mail, third party app, or sync. Also battery may need to be drained to 5% or so and then charged to full again to calibrate it. Hope this helps.

I see, so you're saying the contacts in the battery door are antennae? Very interesting. I didn't pick up on that. And, yes, I see that with the battery door off the signal goes to "0". I will keep that in mind.

Yea there is two antennae in there on the door. Someone over at xda forums pointed it out. I am not sure how it works exactly, I just know the door needs to be seated and its not a looped antenna I believe.

I love how the phone shows 3 or 4 bars and the second u make a phone call it drops to zero bars instantly!

thats my point about it being an indicator issue. Obviously when u see no bars, your call still stays well connected right?

I think the GB update helped that issue from my experience...

it does now! i had a vzw tech do all kinds of fixes on it. i used to get anywhere from 0 bars qith an x above it to 2 bars. now i get 2 to 3 bars and fluxuate from 1rtxx to 3g all the freaking time. sometime i still do get droppedf calls

An app like speedtest may be a more reliable test. I don't think the bars on these VZW devices display reception properly.

Yea, the bars are totally inaccurate. I've seen 2 to 3 bars being displayed for a signal of -102 dBm, and then no bars at all for -90 dBm.

The phone does have a week antennae, and I happen to live in a very marginal signal area, but I'm determined to keep the phone even if I have to get one of the network extenders for the house, everything else about the phone is so perfect. I have a service ticket in with Verizon to check the signal strength in my area, and I've read if it's determined to be a marginal signal area, they sometimes offer the network extenders for free.

Drats... I just made a post called "signal strength".

Shucks. My reception isn't as bad as some report here, but it is not a happy situation.

I've had complaints about my voice quality (in weak signal areas). My blackberry 9650, right now, has all five bars filled. The Dinc2 has two bars...and they are waffling to one bar.

I have called verizon to re-activate my 9650, so I'm no longer on a cell network with the Dinc2.... not sure if that affects reception, but the signal strength indicator is there and appears to be working.

Oh man. An otherwise flawless phone is not actually much of a *phone* at all! More like an ipod touch.

I just picked up a new bold 9930 and the reception and call quality is far superior

Are you being sarcastic?

You are probably right one way or the other.

Anyway, I thought I had done enough investigating to answer the question: "Who is complaining the least about their phones?"... and, believe it or not, my informal assessment gave the Dinc2 the thumbs up.

Reception is a BIG deal, though. I think I'd rather have a phone that spontaneously rebooted on occasion! Without reception, you've got a piece of glass.

For most places, there are no issues. Reception is there (not super powerfully strong... but enough for proper functioning).

This phone has very little tolerance for weaker signal areas, though.
