Recieving low res MMS

My issue is that when someone sends me an MMS with a photo, the resolution is reduced to a fraction of what it was when sent. However, I can send images via MMS at full resolution.

As an experiment, I sent my wife a 940KB screenshot. She has an unrooted Galaxy S5. I had her send it back to me and when I got it, it was at 27KB. I had her email me that same image and it was unaltered at 940KB. We are both with Verizon on the same account. I use an old version of GoSMS because I love it and everything else I've tried sucks. I have the MMS size limit set to 5MB.

The stock messaging app shows the same symptom even though I have the MMS limit set to the max of 300KB. I'm getting less than 10% of that. I've tried disabling and even uninstalling either app but no change.

My One M8 is Rooted, S-OFF and running ViperONE 3.2.1. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Thanks you.

I think it's actually an issue with your wife's phone. By default, MMS images are heavily compressed. There are ways around it, but she would have to set it up on her and to send higher resolution files.

Hello!

I have a Samsung Note 8 and I had the same problem, but I fixed it. I am not sure if the set up works the same for all Samsung Galaxy cellphones.

Here's what I did

Go to your Messages Settings.
Under Settings go to Chat Settings
Chat Setting you'll see Image Size
Under Image Size you'll have five selections.

Best available
Original
Large 50 percent
Medium 20 percent
Small 10 percent

I picked Original. But you can choose the size of your choice.

Under Multimedia Limit you'll have 2 choices.

Automatically accept all
Automatically accept files less than 9765 MB in size.
I chose Automatically accept all

Good luck! 😊

Marie
