Can someone please help in selection of a tablet? I have absolutely no idea on this subject. Your opinions would be very helpful as a step in the right direction.

This is going to be a Christmas present for my SO.

From my own experiences and not anyone else's, any tablet with ICS is going to tick you off for one reason or another. Between app settings that don't stick and gmail accounts ICS just doesn't like, I wish I would have purchased a netbook and saved between $100-$200.

Again my opinion, tablets are convenient but they've got a LONG way to go before their quality and abilities match their prices.

That is strange. I have 4 Asus tablets in da house and with the exception of an occasional hickup, our tablets run very well. No issues with settings not sticking or gmail issues at all. TF101, 2 TF300T'S, and a C40 serial TF201 which is the fixed wifi/GPS model. I have read about a lot of bugs in the Toshiba, not as much with the Acer A510/A700 or the Asus tf300t. All three pretty equal tablets, but for the money you can't loose getting the Asus tf300t.
With that being said I wouldn't buy any of these because tomorrow the Asus Infinity tf700t will be released with a 1080p display, the fastest processor clocked at 1.6, ddr3 ram, and best camera's in class starting at 499.99 for the 32gb version. And if you want a keyboard dock its 150.00. We have keyboard docks for all 4 of ours. We only use the keyboard docks about 30% of the time but very handy when we need to type long emails, my kids and there school work, or by just using it for a stand to watch movies.
Right now for the money the Asus Tf700T is the best option.
PS. Before anyone brings it up. If all you have is 200.00 to spend the Nexus 7 is the tablet for you. But you are locked down with 8 or 16gb for 250. No sdcard slot. No mhl or HDMI capabilities. A VGA front camera and no rear camera.

you should go to the store and check them out, at least to get an idea on size. 7" and 10" are the most common sizes. Also do you want wide screen or full screen? For movies, wide screen is nice, but for browsing and email, my personal preference is full screen.

What is your price range?

Do you must have a sd card slot?

Do you want a keyboard docking station?

Do you need tv out?

Don't have a clue, 10" I would imagine, to be used for movies,tv, web browsing, kindle books.

Price up to $500

Sd slot.... Perhaps

Keyboard and tv out... Not particularly

I shall use these questions as a starting point...

IPAD! Plus its the only one full screen. 16gb 500.00

Acer iconia series. I have the a500. Blow the ipads away. Micro sd card slot, micro hdmi, ics, full size USB.

With Flash not being able to run on Jelly Bean, I think it limits the useful of Web searching on a tablet vs a computer, since current tablets run mobile OS's. For that reason, I think you should look at a tablet with the most apps. The ipad is probably the way to go.

As HUGE android fanboy, I still say Ipad. Even with the Nexus tablet coming out, Android tablets just can't compare to the ipad....and I'm an iphone hater. We are an android phone household, I use a nook color that is rooted as a tablet, and an ipad. The ipad just does the movies and tv shows better. Content is not even close on an android tablet.

The kindle fire is OK. Good content. Amazon prime makes it great, but it's only 7" and you stated you want 10.

Personally, if I were you, I would get the 64 gb Ipad 2 off the the apple store under the refurbished section. Same warranty as buying new, but you get 4 times the storage at the same price as 16 gb ipad 3. The retina display is nice, but it's not that much better when you can basically get the same tablet with 4 times the storage at the same price.

I use my android phone to tether my ipad when on the road. Just my opinion, but Android is better in the phone department, Apple is better in the tablet world.

My friend I have your answer... The Asus tf300. It is best tablet for your money hands down. It has all the bells and whistles and is only $400 for the 32gb. Plus the fully integrated keyboard dock in an amazing addition if you get it. Showed it to my ios everything cousin and he about craped his pants and is now looking into getting one despite having 2 ipads already. It has no issues that I have found and Asus feeds constant updates. I am betting it will get jelly bean before September is out sense they made the nexus and their skin is not even big enough to be called a skin. The only visual thing they modify is the pop up menu which they make more functional by adding controls. It really is an amazing piece of hardware.

the display resolution on these devices with 1280x800 like the tf300 aren't close to as good as the iPad 3. the iPad 3 has 300% the number of pixels as the tf300. That's a huge difference, if display resolution is important to you. I have used an ipad 2 and 3 side by side and the resolution difference is very easy to tell. with that said, i would say the iPad 3 is probably the better option, but the tf700 has a 1920x1200 resolution and is $500, if you must have an android tablet.

Just tried out my friends nexus 7 16GB model. Sweet. $249 for that model, $199 for 8GB model.

10" device is too big for easy one handed use, 7" is perfect and the screen, at least for me, works for every app I have. Web browsing, book reading, movie/video watching all are great for me. I do wear glasses (for reading only) but would need them with 10" screen also since in use them for my 21" monitor at home.

I had more quirks with my ICS Iconia than I do with my Toshiba Excite.

I really hate you have any had trouble with your tablets. I would try to help, but I don't use Google calender and quite frankly don't know anything about it. I've had no trouble with mine yet except for some browser studering that was fixed with an update and switching to chrome

I'm riding the fence between the TF300 and the Nexus 7. The Nexus will fit into my hands better. I have a 10" windows tablet for work. However the TF300 has the ability to use external storage. I travel a lot. So am I willing to root the Nexus to add external storage? I have been bouncing this thought in my brain all weekend. Arrggh. I still cant make a decision.

I remember when shopping around for a HDTV and was informed never to listen to resolution. The reason was, that there isn't a standard form of measurement for this. One tv may have said resolution and another one may have another resolution, but at the end of the day they could have the same resolution. The way resolution is measured hasn't been made standard yet.

I would suggest going to Best Buy and playing around with several tablets. Wait for the Nexus 7 to come out and deff play around with it. I own a 10 inch tablet and the size and weight sucks when it comes to reading. I am interested in the Nexus 7, but after spending the night watching "The Walking Dead" on my current tablet. Will help my choice. Best of luck to you!

Can someone explain to me what is the advantage of an android tablet over an ipad? Exclude price as a factor. I'm an android user, and will always stick with an android phone, but I don't see the same need of rooting/modding for a tablet that I see with the phone. So my question is why get an android tablet? I'm a mac user, (who hates the iphone), but in my experience, I have yet to see where it would be better to have an android tablet.

I'm interested in hearing folks' opinions on this as well.
