Recommendations for a car dock?

This x100 ^^^^^

Don't need a special overpriced car dock with special modes when you've got a phone as advanced as the Turbo. The Moto Assist app knows when you're driving and does all this for you...touch free.

I understand not needing dock mode but you have got to admit that being able to place your phone in a dock and have it plugged in as part of the same step (and not fishing around for the cord) is convenient.

I wanted a dock for my Rezound because that thing needed sucked down battery like it was nothing. I don't feel the need to plug in my Moto X on my short commutes, so I really only plug it in when using navigation. Therefore, I'm happy with the more universal iOttie right now. But I can totally understand the desire for a true dock.

With the Maxx, the ONLY time I charged my phone during the week was when I drove to and from work. Slap it in the dock. Drive an hour to work. Slap it in the dock. Drive an hour home. On the weekend, I would top it off on the Qi charger on my desk, unless I was out enough for the car dock to take care of it. In other words, I almost didn't have to even think about it. For now, I'm going to slap it in the dock anyway, and driving two hours a day with the screen on would kill my phone if it wasn't charging.

As for the dock mode, I can manipulate my phone much more efficiently with buttons than speech. I do talk to my phone. It doesn't always understand me. Even if it did, I can touch it and get the job done very quickly. The dock puts the apps I use while driving where I want them, and with larger icons than on the regular home screen. When I take it out of the dock, the dock home screen goes away, and the same apps are in their respective folders where I want them. I don't want to make a separate car screen on my regular launcher, and I don't want to dig for them in the folders on my home screen.

I get it. Not everyone uses their phone in their car the way I do. I don't know many people with any kind of dock or cradle in their car.

This is all still just a stop gap until my next car with either Android Auto or something similar is ready to take the phone's place. Ultimately, I don't want to even interact with my phone directly. I'd just as soon leave the phone in my pocket and have it automatically link to my in dash device with BT. I want to interact with the in dash device for navigation, calling, music, scheduling, data, etc. I'd gladly buy a second Qi charger for my desk at work to keep charging easy.

The point is, I have it working the way I want with the Maxx. I want the same for the Turbo. I had a generic cradle a couple of phones back while I was waiting on the official dock to release. It just wasn't the same. This will be my fourth phone in this car. I had a Droid X and then a Droid RAZR, both with the official Motorola docks. Then I had the Droid Maxx with the official Griffin dock. Now I have a Droid Turbo. This should be the last phone I'll have to worry about a dock with. I'm still considering my options. I didn't want to get an aftermarket radio until my next car. I guess I'll have to think about it and see what kind of official dock is released (The Griffin dock for the Maxx leaves something to be desired.) and how long I plan to wait for my next car.

You, sir are the most interesting man in the forum.

Here is a new car mount. It claims it's a universal mount for any smartphone, with or with out a case. Charge with a cigarette adapter. Add a NFC tag for car mode and automation. Car mount as vent mount, visor mount, windshield mount, sunroof mount :) and optional dash mount and CD mount. That is enough options for any driver. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1247222675/fum-shape-changing-flexible-universal-mount-for-an
Above link also has a link to reusable NFC tag.

Would this solve your issue? I backed it.

I hate universal docks because they never quite hold the phones as well as ones with slots made specifically for a device. That being said, I ususally like ProClip docks because it separate the car dock part from the phone slot (Google it, find their website and you'll know what I mean). Te only downer for me is that their current crop of Turbo docks don't accommodate the BN version, which I have.

Yes I agree most of the time, none were universal even if they claim it.
But, you need to go check this one out. It can be reshaped to any shape you want, over and over again. See their video. I am excited for this one.

If you have the Verizon Shell Holster Combo with Kickstand on the Droid Turbo and expect to be able to use the iOttie Easy One Touch XL Car Mount, you'll be disappointed. The side clamps do not extent far enough to securely clamp the phone to the back-plate. The shell holster makes the Turbo too thick to be safely secured with the clamps. I had high hopes for this case, but it's not going to cut it for me. I feel the slightest bump while driving will allow the Turbo to come right out of this case and cause it tall.

I got the Kenu Airframe+ and really like it so far. It fits perfectly on my vent above my stereo console and can easily hook to my car charger if it was needed.

I agree... it has to have driving menu and it has to charge the phone while docked. My speech is rarely recognized and I don't have time to fumble with small icons while I'm driving.
