With the Maxx, the ONLY time I charged my phone during the week was when I drove to and from work. Slap it in the dock. Drive an hour to work. Slap it in the dock. Drive an hour home. On the weekend, I would top it off on the Qi charger on my desk, unless I was out enough for the car dock to take care of it. In other words, I almost didn't have to even think about it. For now, I'm going to slap it in the dock anyway, and driving two hours a day with the screen on would kill my phone if it wasn't charging.
As for the dock mode, I can manipulate my phone much more efficiently with buttons than speech. I do talk to my phone. It doesn't always understand me. Even if it did, I can touch it and get the job done very quickly. The dock puts the apps I use while driving where I want them, and with larger icons than on the regular home screen. When I take it out of the dock, the dock home screen goes away, and the same apps are in their respective folders where I want them. I don't want to make a separate car screen on my regular launcher, and I don't want to dig for them in the folders on my home screen.
I get it. Not everyone uses their phone in their car the way I do. I don't know many people with any kind of dock or cradle in their car.
This is all still just a stop gap until my next car with either Android Auto or something similar is ready to take the phone's place. Ultimately, I don't want to even interact with my phone directly. I'd just as soon leave the phone in my pocket and have it automatically link to my in dash device with BT. I want to interact with the in dash device for navigation, calling, music, scheduling, data, etc. I'd gladly buy a second Qi charger for my desk at work to keep charging easy.
The point is, I have it working the way I want with the Maxx. I want the same for the Turbo. I had a generic cradle a couple of phones back while I was waiting on the official dock to release. It just wasn't the same. This will be my fourth phone in this car. I had a Droid X and then a Droid RAZR, both with the official Motorola docks. Then I had the Droid Maxx with the official Griffin dock. Now I have a Droid Turbo. This should be the last phone I'll have to worry about a dock with. I'm still considering my options. I didn't want to get an aftermarket radio until my next car. I guess I'll have to think about it and see what kind of official dock is released (The Griffin dock for the Maxx leaves something to be desired.) and how long I plan to wait for my next car.
