recording at 9fps? Really?

so last night I was recording at a show and I noticed that at the same time there were other Droids recording (D1's, X's, etc.)... well my DINC seemed to be lagging a bit. Well today I started checking out the video details and as it turns out... I was recording at 9 fps?! (720p) :confused:
I thought the DINC recorded at 30fps, or is there something I'm missing?

Well the SD card is the 16gb one I pulled off my Droid 1

I think what draken was talking about is the "class" of SD card. A card could be 16 gb but a class 2 card and be super slow. A class 4 would have faster R/W capabilities than a class 2. Something to think about.

The following are the ratings of some currently available cards:

* Class 2: 2 MB/s
* Class 4: 4 MB/s
* Class 6: 6 MB/s
* Class 10: 10 MB/s

is there any truth to the fact that class2 not being able to record 30fsp? I have a class2 and the only thing i notice is that the video pauses here and there but to me it looks smooth.

I guess the only way to tell is try using internal memory.

Take this for what its worth. I just asked my buddy who is a photographer.... he says on his camera the calculation he uses to shoot in 720p @ 30 fps = 2955 KB/s ~ 3 MB/s.

Now this can be different on a phone camcorder but it might be the same deal... since shooting with better quality actually translates to more data being transferred. If your SD card is a class 2... it would make sense for it to be choppy since you need at least 3 mb/s for 720p.

Again, this is from my buddy who is a photographer... maybe someone can confirm if this is true for general 720p recording.

checked it and I have a C2 SD card, so it seems I'm writing at 2MB/s? What about writing to phone storage or even how would WVGA write?

quite a few questions as you can tell, but this choppy video is somewhat annoying when I see other phones recording pretty smoothly

Not sure about writing to phone storage. Anyone else help him here?

Here are your specs for R/W on SD cards.

What are the applications for Speed Class?
Class 2 : H.264 video recording, MPEG-4, MPEG-2 video recording
Class 4: MEPG-2 (HDTV) video recording, DSC consecutive shooting
Class 6: Mega-pixel DSC consecutive shooting, professional video camera
Class 10: Full HD video recording, HD still consecutive shooting

yeah, tried a few tests recording to both phone storage and SD card, but both seem to record under the same fps

ok, so after a few more trial and error videos it has pretty much come down to this:
the lower the lighting conditions the lower the frame rate, despite whether or not the flash is turned on :(

the concerts I was trying to record where indoors and seemed to be recording at 9fps, while my video recordings for today (in broad daylight) where recording at 23fps. thats a pretty big jump.

what I find even more odd is that I was going through some recordings I had made with the Droid 1, and even under horrible lighting conditions the frame rate didnt drop below 24fps

Any ideas? input?

I throw in my input because I really am thinking of doing some major recording this the Incredible soon.

So far I have noticed the video recording seems subpar is most cases compared to other phones (which saddens me because I love everything else about it). The brightness level and focus levels change way to slow making it obvious when viewing the videos. Also the video seems very staticy (static + y) if you know what I mean. It also seems indoor recording is poor compared to outdoors.

I have seen times where the FPS drops dramatically. For instance, I had my friend hold my phone and record a 720p video while I drove home. When playing it back later, the video would freeze up for a second or two and then continue. Kind of like the video recording couldn't keep up.

I spent a few hours last night seeing if maybe there was a different application to record from, maybe a developer app or even a port over from another phone... but no luck :(
