Is it trying to save to Internal Storage or an SD card? If the latter, see if it still happens on Internal Storage, or with a different card.

Are these long or short videos? If they're pretty long, are you sure you have enough free space on your Internal Storage?

Lot of free space is there! It happens immediately when i start camera app.

I would go in to the app settings, clear the cache and data, and then try again and see what happens.

I've had thus happen. I had to clear the cache and then restart the phone. After that it started back working.

I hate to say it but I was having an issue similar to this on my S7 Edge, when it would say camera failed to start as soon as I opened camera app. Wiping cache would sometimes work but I ultimately had to send it off to Samsung under warranty for them to swap out the camera sensor. Hopefully that does not happen to you.

this happened to me twice since launch, both times when recording 4K but a few seconds later worked fine

I use asus zenfone max with external64 gb class 10 sd card and internal ?64 gb .default write was to external sd card.nougat os.
Some days earlier i began to get video recording failed error.i tried.
.1 setting to lower resolution
2 google maps location permission
3 setting location to internal storage..
4 downloaded cinema fv5
5 clearing cache of all programs
6 force stopping camera app
7 restarting phone.
All these failed to resolve video recording failed error message..

What I had done earlier was "pause" video recording and then resume after sometime..Phone was getting heated and problem started.
How it resolved...I deleted all video files which was showing black background and was unplayable..Which resolved problem for me.

Hi guys! I got the error yesterday and after some research I found out that it was because my mic was being used by another application (ex:My mic was being used by the call recorder app that I had) so close all applications and if that doesn't work try to think of applications that may use ur Mic like PUBG,Fortnite, Call Recorders, Screen Recorders and "force stop" them
