Release Date..

I'm sure once we get positive root on this thing, the ROM chef's over at xda will have something cooked up, zip aligned, and de-bloated in no time...

Correct me if im wrong, but:
Is int this phone way worse than the Atrix?

~Significantly lower resolution display I dont really care much for res. To be honest my eyes are fine reading a phones screen
~Less and inferior RAMThis is more of a speed issue. for one i am really going to be doing emails IMing and some web surfing with social networking with friend stream. I dont think more ram will matter for those tasks.
~MUCH Less processing power (1 A8 vs 2 A9s)See above. A dual core wont make much difference for me
~Less storage spaceApps are kinda small. I dont use many apps outside of ones that are above 100 megs anway
~Looks the same as evo (been out since july and needs an update)What phone doesnt look like a black slab these days?
~No finger print scannerMeh dont need it. I am already using one on my laptop which wokrs okay but nothing ground breaking.
~No HDMI outputIts a phone. I dont need to output the signal to anywhere.
....The list goes on....

I just want somthing that can handle my tasks much better. Does not have to have the latest and greatest.

I read these posts all the time, and you guys have me convinced. I am going to get this over the Atrix now. To root or not to root, should I do it?

Re: previous comment... you don't have to root if you don't want to. :)

I am rooted, and while I wouldn't have it any other way, you will have a fantastic stock device as-is, if you so choose.

Thats the plus with HTC if you want to root and ROM you can and if not you have the second best Android version behind pure google that your gonna get

To root or not to root depends on two things.

1. Do you consider yourself a tech savy "Power User"? If you don't, you may want to stay stock and be safe. Messing around behind the curtain can really mess up your phone. As long as you stay away from the radio, however, someone on this forum can help you recover from just about anything. If you do, the benifits are many. You can take off some of the "Bloat Ware" that gets in the way. You can run apps that require root that are really very useful, like Titanium Backup and Theft Aware, as well as Root Explorer. By far the most useful reason is for the "Nandroid Backup" you can run from a custom recovery. This basically copies literally everything on your phone and saves it, so at any point in time you can recover to that state.

2. You can truly make your phone yours. You can change the splash screen you see when you turn it on, you can change the animation while it's booting, you can run a custom ROM (Sense or Stock Android), you can even change kernel which affect how fast the processor runs (Overclock it to 1.2 G for example) or even undervolt it to save battery life. Point being if HTC sells 5 million of these phones, none of them will be anything like yours.

If none of that made sense or doesn't interest you, this phone will be a beast out of the box and you should let it be. If it does peak your interest, start reading through some ROM's and Hacks sections of several established HTC phones (DInc, Evo, G2) to get an idea what you're in for and ask a lot of questions if you don't understand.

I stopped by my local Radio Shack today, and low and behold, also inside the store was someone who works at AT&T and knows what he's talking about talking to the associate. I got talking to him, and he said that by March 31, both devices will be out, as AT&T follows the calendar year (none of the crap other companies do by saying Q1 of their fiscal year). He also said that probably the main reason they haven't announced a release date is they usually like to have a certain number (such as 500,000) of devices already made and sitting aside before they announce the release date so if something were to happen to production lines, they will still be able to release the phone and not have to move the date back. He didn't give away any other details, but he was extremely knowledgeable regarding android, so i trust the info he did give me.

Is it just me, or does this price almost seem desperate, like HTC is admitting that this phone is kind of outdated, considering it is basically the Desire. It makes me think that HTC will be coming out with something more up to date within 6 months.

Considering what I will be switching from, the iPhone 3GS, I am ready to move on. Be it this phone, or an HTC that will be coming out in 6 months, or whenever.

Once this is made 100% official, I will be contacting my local sales rep and seeing if I can upgrade a few months early.

I agree, but then the Evo's price is now lower too, so they might just be playing with that price range. It is a rebranded Desire HD after all.

Most likely, HTC will have some new stuff at MWC.

Amazon Wireless lists it as $99.99 with contract: http://www.amazon.com/HTC-Inspire-4...tag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUacUvbUpU563565

Why would they do that? I called the store and the guy said no they don't have it.
I stop by a ATT store and they said the same thing about not having the phone yet. When I asked about the website they said they have no idea why they would advertise something they have not released yet. Somebody must of screwed up at ATT IT department.

4G Speed from AT&T - AT&T 4G with HSPA+ and LTE - Wireless from AT&T

This is the link, that connects you to the link mentioned above.

When you click your way through the flash, and you come to the section of "4G DEVICES", all of them say "COMING SOON" on the device. Once you click "LEARN MORE" under the HTC Inspire 4G, that's when you get to the link mentioned above.

They're just conflicting pages.
The only reason I thought to bring it to any ones attention was the page my link went to had said "coming soon" up until this morning when it was changed to "available now".
