Remove 'No SIM card' message and mobile network icon

I intend to use my tablet as a wifi-only device. How do I remove both the 'No SIM card' message on the lock screen and the mobile network symbol from the top right corner (next to the battery, wifi, bluetooth, etc icon)?

Welcome to Android Central! What happens if you turn on Airplane Mode? You can always turn wi-fi back on in Airplane Mode.
