So I'm giving the rooted OTA GB a run and was wondering what is a better option.... 1. Learn how to use titanium and freeze or 2. Rename them all to bloatware.apk.bak ?

Do they both achieve the same thing??

Thanks in advance...

I believe yes, correct me if I am wrong.

BUT, with using Titanium, you have to have the full version

If they achieve the same thing then the free, change to .bak, route works for me. LOL

Basically the same thing - Titanium stops them from running, but of course you have titanium running instead, renaming them, or deleting them means they will never start. Just be carefully with some of the friendcaster stuff. Deleting those can cause problems in other areas.

There are a few threads about what's cool and not cool to delete.

I bak'ed up friendstream, peep, htcfacebook, news and stock along with their respective widgets and any apps that I didn't have an option to uninstall.

The only thing I've found that you shouldn't delete is Facebook for Sense and Friendstream. For whatever reason they have some deep roots into the OS and getting rid of them can cause some serious issues. The rest, well its open season on bloatware.

As far as freeze, rename, or delete...I've always been a delete kind of guy. If you're rooted, and I know you are, I usually make a nandroid after I've got everything set up and running...after the nandroid you can feel free to delete away...if something goes wonky just restore and don't delete whatever it was you deleted to cause the problem.

A word about all these nandroids. Don't know if anyone has given you this tip but they take up a lot of room. I usually keep no more than 3 nandroids of various ROMs on my SD card...any other nandroid of a ROM i really liked I drag to my computer and name it something so I know exactly what it is. That way it's not taking up space but if I need it or just want it I can stick it back on my SD and then restore from there. In fact I think I still have my stock Froyo from immediatly after I rooted...and backups of Virtuous, and several other ROMs that I don't use any more.

You know, I actually got rid of Facebook for sense and Friendstream and am not seeing any issues.

As far as Nandroids go, I've got one for Nightly 151, 166, SkyRaider 4.3, Gingersense 3.0 v2.0, Gingersense v2.1 and the rooted GB OTA. I still have about 7 Gigs free and those are about the only ROMS I run. My next one will be whatever the chefs cook up with the OTA...
