Removing second call from conference call - HELP I am DROPPING CALLS.

Please help! This has happened to me at least five times in the past two weeks. While on a call, phone automatically adds same contact in as a second call - the "MERGE CALLS" box opens above keypad.
At no time did I do this myself, but perhaps proximity sensor not working and something with the call on my face does it itself.
Once this happens, I cannot go back to my first call. Merging calls doesn' t allow me to talk to the first call either.
There is no button to UNMERGE the two calls to return to the first. My only option is to end the second call, which ends both.

I just hit the send button and toggle back and forth.

but I also have Motions and Gestures turned OFF. that is garbage IMO and fraught with frustration.

I never have a conference call up unless I instigate it.
But once it is up, it is up and you cannot get rid of one w/o dumping them both.

Has never, ever, worked on Verizon phone and that is a lot of phones.
I just let the 2nd call hang there until "they hang it up, or their voice mail times out"

I have never instigated a conference call. Something with it being on speaker phone when I am trying to switch between contact info and the call - usually while on the phone with a utility company that wants my account number or the like. Happens every time! Wish I could disable the ability to add a call when I am on a call it is so maddening. The only motion I use is the swipe to screen capture. If there is an easier way to do that I would disable motions/gestures.

I have come to grips with it by looking to see what that second caller is about.

Unless it is extremely important, it goes to voicemail. I won't answer it.

If you are having trouble with the audio on your conference calls then try GlobalMeet Audio (User Friendly, Reliable Audio Conferencing | GlobalMeet Audio by PGi). I have not had any problems with it and it's really easy to use on your mobile device. I travel a lot so that really comes in handy.

There is no UNMERGE button to exit the conference. You need to select the one call and click on "End Call" to end that one caller but Problem is that it will disconnects your both calls and in a few seconds it will ring back and once you answer, you will find that the existing caller is still there.

Hey guys not sure if you noticed but it's always there on tmobile, If you turn off volte it'll work but if volte is on, it doesn't! Try it and you'll see..

When Verizon pushed the 4.4.4 update out, I noticed that I now have a SWAP button.
If I use that, I can go back to the 1st caller w/o trouble.

I never use that END call button, that will drop both callers, but the cellsite will ring you back to the 1st caller.

I figured it out this is what you do go to your call settings and make a call once you make the call there are three dots on the right side of the phone that's the menu button you click it,its going to give you options one of the options will be settings go into the settings and disable the volte, it will be the second option from the top click on it and you'll see it will be fixed

From a MacWorld forum article about Apple's iPhone user guide to the differences between iPhones:
Carriers aren't on the same network standards. Verizon and Sprint use CDMA; AT&T and T-Mobile use GSM. I don't know all the differences between them, but for handling multiple calls, there's big differences:

"....limitations in CDMA’s implementation of conference calls: you can’t merge calls if the second call is incoming, and you can’t switch between calls if the second call was outgoing—though you can, in that case, merge the calls. And on CDMA iPhones, if you end the second call or the merged call, both calls are terminated. These conference call limitations are endemic to all Verizon CDMA phones, not just the iPhone."

This was from 2011. As of 2015, this still hasn't been fixed. I don't know if it's because people don't complain, or if there's been a fix. But it's still the same problem with newer phones.

This is the single most frustrating feature of Verizon for me. I used T-Mobile for years, and they were way ahead on features like this, as well as international calls. I switched to Verizon because of the coverage (I travel a lot around the US), but found this problematic because I actually use my phone to make a lot of calls.
