Hey everyone, i like many am a not so happy OTA recipient. I got the push about 3 weeks ago and honestly i see no improvement whats so ever in the way the phone works and infact the only difference i could see is the random restarts which seem to only take place after 10pm. I haven't had that many reboots but after 5 or 6 i started to get concerned so i called verizon tonight and they are replacing my tbolt with another tbolt. I am happy that they are doing this but no so happy that i could potentially recieve a refurb phone. After all i didnt do anything to my device to warrant the replacement. The customer service rep did say that the replacement should come with the original firmware on it which also makes me happy. Btw, has anyone had any positive experiences with the OTA? Has anyone see any huge improvements in the phone after updating it?

I have not seen any improvements since updating my device. However, with that said, I have not had any negative experiences with the new firmware either. It's a bit strange that my old Thunderbolt did not receive an update at any time but my insurance replacement did. Either way, all is good and I wish you luck with the new replacement.

I wouldn't be too confident about that. Say a couple Hail Mary's before you power up the phone if that's your thing.

And yes, plenty of people like myself have had no problems with the upgraded firmware. I have better GPS lock, and an overall improvement of the quality of my signal since I had the new firmware. It wasn't a remarkable difference, but definitely not worse.

i kept hearing how this update was supposed to fix the GPS taking forever to lock your position but honestly it still took forever after the update.

I thought I managed to avoid the random reboot but low and behold, i've had two reboot and a shutdown in the last couple days. Still not has bad as everyone else but i'm starting to get a little concerned! Guess I shouldn't have bragged about how awesome my Bolt was!

So VZW sent me a replacement TBolt for mine that was wrecked by the OTA. The screen was barely hanging on and the black piece below the screen was missing. That phone went back. My next one had a screen with a severe yellow tint. Everything was yellowish. That one went back. Neither of these had the update, I refused the update when it tried to install. The third one I get today looks great! I'm excited. I power it up, and it doesn't prompt me for the update. This is concerning, so I look in about phone and sure enough...the update has already been installed. I figure I'll give it the benefit of the doubt, and take an hour or two getting the new phone all setup. I've had 4 reboots tonight.

VZW is sending me a brand new Thunderbold (not a BS Certified Like New Device), a comperable replacement phone, or I'm switching to Sprint. I can't spend any more time talking to tech support. I'm done. At my wits end. That update ruined the phone, and the Like New phones are junk.

Good luck, hopefully your journey goes better than mine.

The SAME thing happened to me, I thought that I was out in the clear, but darn it, I called VZW and a replacement is supposed to be on its way.

One question though, shouldn't I have gotten an email saying that my phone was on the way, and a tracking number? It has been over 24 hours since I called tech support. Kinda worried.

Sorry to go OT, I just don't want to start a new thread on such a trivial subject.

Same issue for me, I should be getting my new tbolt tomorrow. We'll see how it goes. On a further note, have any of you with resetting issues had advance task killer installed? I uninstalled it and my phone stopped rebooting.

I've had three reboots total. I had one a week ago and two today. What is your advise ? Think I should jsut hold out or do reboots mean the phone is flawed and I should get a new one ?

Thanks for the input will help decide

I'm rooted and have the phone just how i like so id rather not unroot and take it back but if a couple reboots lead to a lot of issues I will.

Tell them to swap it out for a Charge like they did for me im verry happy with it.

Why is Verizon sending out devices that are damaged? I have never got a device from Verizon that's damaged, but it appears that many replacement Thunderbolts are damaged in some way, share, or form.

My replacement looked brand new as promised but still had reboot issues. It's going back today and I haven't decided if I'm going to call back for another one or ride it out until update.

hey,, my replacement thunderbolt showed up today and i am happy to report that it was a brand new phone. When i first turned it on it had the unsupdated rom loaded on it which i was happy with. When i begand loading my apps and backups back onto the phone i got a dreaded update push. It installed without problems but instead of being a 22mb download i got a 35 mb file. I'm hoping that this time will be better than the previous one.

Hum it should have been a 35MB file in the first place. Maybe your origional download was bad.

You can refuse the update if you wanted to.

It's because the certified like new process goes through a 100+ point inspection, but for the most part, it won't cover the issues that most thunderbolt users are having. that's why some people here have had several returned phones. in fact, my replacement phone had more issues than my original, so i just returned the replacement.

So, quick question to those of you who called vzw for a replacement device. Did you get your device insured, because I declined the insurance and I'm getting constant reboots/shutdowns even after a couple of factory resets.
