A quick story , I had a customer who always filled the gas at half way and never left it below . A family member borrow the car car and let it go empty and returned it back and next day had it towed to me for a no start well as I was checking for spark and fuel , the fuel pressure was zero , so I'm thinking fuel pump , I checked the guage it said half . So I said just for hell of it let me put 5 gallons of gas , the car started lol
In the fuel tank the sending unit has poitometer which sweeps from low /middle /high to tell how much gas , because the family member drove it to empty it was still stuck on middle and look like it had gas in it so moral of story is let it go through it's full pace as intended.

Ps . You can burn out your fuel pump over time always running on low/ like fumes lol as it needs the fuel to cool the pump lol
