Replacing the iPad Air on a budget

I read a lot for my work (50-60 pdfs of books a month) and use the iPad pretty much exclusively for that. This is the second iPad that's developed a hairline crack and it's no longer under warranty. Can't see trying a third time when I take really good care of this device and only use it at home.

So, looking for a tablet with 2048x1536 or thereabouts display resolution to get the best quality reading experience. My first thought was a Zenpad s 8 but have been reading some negative user reviews and my one Asus computer was uninspiring. Had also considered the Samsung Google Nexus 10 refurb but not so sure about it.

Would love the Galaxy Tab s2 but need to keep the price below 200. Maybe Black Friday sales will lower but I think that's pushing. So considering either a refurbished Tab S 8.4 or a Tab Pro 8.4. They seem to have better specs but then there's the older os to wonder about. Can someone walk me through this? Any other recommended android tablets for a reader?

Thanks

You don't want the headaches of the tab s2 , samsung told me to go pound sand they would not repair or replace under warranty the tablet was a 64 gig tab s2 less then six months old fortunately for me i bought it at best buy with extended warranty so far they have replaced the battery x's 3 and everything besides the display twice and now, its having audio problems and has to go in again , the s2 isn't a great performer , it's battery life sucks if you enable any of the battery saving features it will not allow you to print until you renegage full system , turning on Bluetooth is battery suicide it will be dead in 2 hours, the most efficient way to use it is with extreme power save but that disables the color screen and almost all internet usage as well as graphics , oh and did I mention it doesn't come with wall charger it's got really short maybe 4 in cable to plug it in that cable died in the first month and ever since it reminds me it would charge much faster if I bought another cheap cable from Samsung, oh and it doesn't fast charge at all , the other problem that is hugely annoying is if it goes into standby when you try to resume you get a black gradient screen with blue dots and a horizontal white line , the only remedy for that is to fully charge the tablet (this usually occurs with 96 % remaining in the battery but needs to charge over night to be able to get it operational again ,using the buttons to try and force reset doesn't work) I paid good money for the worst device I ever owned with zero support from Samsung because according to them the "business & economic climate does not allow them to service there own mobile devices in warranty or out of warranty "
It lives a good life in an otter box case mounted to an aluminum plate on a Mount N mover base that also has my MacBook pro and Canon 5 D M III on it those work fine .
