Hi gang, I thought there was a thread on this, but I could not find it.

I did a little impromptu experiment and thought I'd share the utterly non-scientific, but empirical results, as people have been asking about wireless vs. wall charging.

I have the little disc LG qi charger, by the way.

I purposely drained the batter to 0% overnight.

This morning I put the phone on the qi charger and it took almost exactly 2 hours (+/- 3 minutes) to charge to 50%. I then pulled it off the qi charger and plugged into the OEM wall charger, and it took almost exactly 90 minutes more (again, +/- 3 minutes) to charge the rest of the way to 100%.

Again, this is not meant to be a scientific/technical study. I have read that there can be differences in charging rate depending on how drained the battery is. But, still, I thought it might be interesting to people here. Frankly, I was surprised that the wireless charging rate was that close to the wall charging rate.

Take it for what it's worth, and happy G2'ing.

Trekkie, does the back of your G2 get warm when wirelessly charging? I've noticed when charging with the wall charger, the back remains cool but when charging with the wireless charger (TYLT in my case), the back gets warm. It concerns me a bit that there would be such a difference in the perceived temperatures. Never having had a wireless charger before, I don't know if that warming is par for the course.

I have found that the LG wireless charger takes about twice as long as the wall charger as well. First wireless charger for me and I like the convenience of charging without possibly damaging the phone's USB port.

I think to get a true rate you would have to charge the battery from the same point. In other words from zero to 50% for both chargers.

I think the charge rate could be different from 0 to 50 then it is from 50 to 100 with the same charger.

It might get a little warm, but nothing extreme or concerning at all.

I'm sure you're right. But, I was still pleasantly surprised at my completely unofficial test, as I'd heard several people - like barley culiner - that wireless charging took twice as long, Even though I didn't complete the charge wirelessly, I'd still be surprised if the difference in charging times were that great.

Remember your transferring electricity wirelessly to a copper plate. So yeah there is going to b some heat transfer.

How is the LG wireless charger? I was about to get it until I read a review saying that the blinking green light is really bright, especially at night.

Depending on how much you want to spend. I would get the tylt vu charger there $69.99 and vzw has them. And if u get a accessory discount its worth it.

I actually like it a lot, though the blinking green light is pretty bright in a dark room. But, I just covered the light (literally just moved a tube of lip balm in front of it on my nightstand) and it's not an issue at all. Necessity is the mother of invention. ;)

I really like the look of this charger; does it not have a charging light, or a less glaring charging light?

When I went to the Verizon site for tylt vu charger the site said it was not compatible with the LG G2. Are you using it with the G2?

Yes its compatible. Its qi so it'll work. But it's perfect for watching movies or using phone for alarm clock.

Only way I could order it was by selecting droid DNA phone. Guess the g2 is to new and vzw has updated there sight

Just one more question, are you charging thru a case. I have the incipio feather case.

In regard to the light on the LG wireless charger, I just put some duct tape over the light. I was a little disappointed that it costs as much as it does and the discount doesn't work for it, but it does work very well.

As for the "dock" with the wireless charging, I don't really consider that a dock and the price is a little steep. If the phone sat more upright I would consider it, but not in its current form.

I built a stand for my 50 inch TV so I could place it on a second desk in my office. The stand allows me to place the DVR and BluRay player under it. But the stand makes the angle just a little off for the remote sitting flat on my desk. So I placed a small paperback under the back of the stand and the angle is just great. If the angle for the charger is wrong I suspect it will be easy to make it better for viewing or as a night clock next to the bed.

It can also be ordered directly from TYLT. That's what I did. I think the price is the same.

BTW, I'm also using the Incipio case, so no problem charging through the case.
