Resizing Wallpaper

I am going from a phone with a quad hd screen to one with HD

I am pretty sure common sense tells me you never want to enlarge a photo, it will blur. And I am fairly sure you don't want to resize a wallpaper of equal dimensions (like 1900x1900) to 1080x1920 (unless it is the same everywhere, Abstract etc) or it will get distorted, stretch, etc

Am I right on those 2?

My main question is, should I resize LARGE res wallpapers to be closer to the phones resolution or leave them as is? (As long as they are not smaller than the phone screen)

thanks

If you add "make smaller" to "enlarge", you're right. Either way, making a picture larger or smaller, if the picture is a raster graphic (gifs, jpgs, tiff, bmp and pngs), changing its size blurs it and introduces artifacts. Vector format files (cgm, svg, gem, odg, ppt, vml and the like) can be changed in size with no problems. (Then saved in a raster graphic format for use as wallpaper.)

You could crop or leave them - resizing may look okay for a particular picture, but you may have to touch up some strange effects if you want it to look good. You can only tell by trying.

Rukbat,

You had me at hello. Ooops I mean you lost me at word 1! I am grateful for your answer. It is way above my level.

I think you answered my main question. I think if I enlarge wallpapers (of normal format to me LOL) it will not be as good as if I were to reduce wallpapers.

But in the end, I am a wallpaper addict, with a ton of them so I am gonna leave as is, and if it doesn't look good, I won't use

I have found Backgrounds HD to be a good wallpaper app as far as applying them nicely and fairly quick. Do you have one you prefer?
