Restart nexus player by pressing buttons on the remote?

I have a google nexus player. I have to unplug it and plug it again every time I want to use it because my tv does not detect it at all. Unplugging and plugging the HDMI cable would not do the trick. Is there a way to restart the devise by pressing buttons on the remote?
Nexus did not help at all. They asked to reset the devise to factory setting and this did not help. So many other trouble shooting steps which I performed and this did not help as well.

I forgot to mention that this started when the software was updated to version 5.1. It was working well before that.
