Restore after factory reset

I've reset this phone maybe three times since I bought it. I have a google account and automatic backups are turned on. I've been having some bluetooth issues and decided to do the rest again.

This time and every other time it never seems to start downloading the previously installed apps despite selecting the restore option at startup.

Is that just a problem with this phone or the 6.0 OS?

There has to be a better way to do this.

If you do a reset, then a restore, you haven't done anything. A factory reset undoes all the changes you've made to the phone. A restore restores all your changes. Net result - wasted time.

Why are you resetting the phone all the time? If there's no particular reason to, you shouldn't be. If there's a problem, fix the problem - resets don't fix problems.

I haven't done resets for fun. In each case, there was an issue with the operation of some aspect of the phone that wasn't working well and I couldn't find another solution. In this case, I was having issues with bluetooth and no solutions I could find resolved it.

It was my impression that the restore function on the phone restored apps and settings to your phone. If not, what is the point? When starting again it asked me if I wanted to restore the apps that were on the phone previously and I checked yes. No apps were installed and I'm doing it manually.

Something may have gotten unchecked somehow and your prior apps weren't installed. When you are trying to troubleshoot if an issue is caused by a third party app it is actually preferred that you don't do an automatic install so that you can prevent the app that may be causing the problem from installing. If you are still having issues you could try starting up in safe mode to see if the problem dissapears which indicates that third party app is causing the problem and then install a few apps at a time to see which one causes the issue.

What device do you have?

Nothing was unchecked regarding the backup or the restore. All 117 apps were checked at the restore point. The phone is an LG G4.

Since the restore function isn't working correctly you could try using the LG backup utility if it exists on the G4. It had it on the G5 and V20 so I'm guessing the G4 has it but since I never had that device I can't say for sure.

It does have it and I didn't use it assuming the other would work properly. My real question is do newer phones and newer OS handle backup and restore any differently than this?

Whenever I've done a restore it's always worked except for older Android Versions where sometimes it would glitch. It's pretty much standard since 6.0 and almost everything restore except some passwords on occasion an app if it doesn't play nice for whatever reason.

Perhaps I'm not waiting long enough for the apps to start downloading. Generally, how long does it take for that process to start once you've told it which apps to reinstall?

Should happen right away one at a time

It didn't do that today which is why I started doing it manually.

I keep looking for a new phone but I need a bright screen with good resolution. Plus I would like one that updates the OS as long a possible. That is hard to find.

Thanks for the help.

Samsung for the best screens. Pixel for the longest updates....3 years

Some Pixels are using Samsung screens. I'm not familiar with any Android that provides longer updates. Apple goes longer but I just prefer Android. They also have Samsung screens usually.

I've looked at them but last I checked they don't work on CDMA.

I need a bright screen because of a lot of outside use in sunlight. The LG G4 was the best one at the time of purchase. I have read that the brightest screens are currently Samsung or LG.

You would have to ask on the One Plus Forums for CDMA like spring and Verizon capabilities.
I'm not sure on LG phones how bright they get , but Samsung flagship are top ones .

Samsung's are brighter than LG from what I have seen.

I thought going back a bit Verizon was going to sell the second gen One plus 6. Did they change their mind?
