[Retired][ROM]Superclean 2.9.2 EA15/EB01/EB16/EC10 Based

I am running the SC2.8 (2.6.32.9) . Can I run Voodoo lagfix with this ROM?
If so are there instructions anywhere on how to do it?

Ok, I rooted this Bad Boy and did rename some bloatware with sucess.
Now That I have my feet wet I decided to do some light reading on flashing the ROM. My interest is Superclean 2.8. I got a coouple of questions.

1. I'm assuming that flashing will cause a data wipe and application wipe on the phone. I have quite a bit of customization on my contact list and in Handcent. how long does it take to restore data? This used to be PITA where I loaded hybrids on my Storm 2.

2. Can I load SuperClean 2.8 over EA28? Or am I going to another kernal?

TIA

Mike

1. Yes, flashing it will wipe your data so make sure you backup all your applications and application data with Titanium Backup or other similar program before flashing any ROM. In fact it's best to backup before flashing anything just in case.

2. SC 2.8 includes it's own EB16 kernel included in the package that you flash over ODIN

Last I knew the way to do that was to long press on the empty screen, choose widgets from the menu that popped up, then choose calendar.

That's what I thought too, but it only gives me one option for a calendar widget and its only a medium sized box with upcoming tasks. I guess maybe I need some extra software?

We have a new moderator at these forums who is a stickler about following the rules and guidelines of the forums found here: http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...forum-rules-guidelines-updated-2-26-2011.html
One of the forum rules is pretty much posting questions in an already existing topic appropriate thread rather than starting a new thread which unnecessarily inflates the size of the forums. He is doing a great job of cleaning up the forums and moving new threads to an appropriate existing thread, so yours may get moved, may not, it's up to him. I will tackle your questions though.

1)The flashing in and of itself does not wipe data and contacts. You have to do a wipe of data, cache, and dalvik cache through cwm when going from Eclair (EA28) to Froyo (EB01.) You can use backup assistant on you phone to backup your contacts on your phone, or you can sync your contacts to your gmail account and restore them from there, or you can export your contacts to your sd card and import them back from there (the wipe does not touch the sd card.)

2) Yes, you can flash sc 2.8 over EA28. Yes you are going to another kernel, but the new kernel is included in the ROM. The thing is though you can't just flash the ROM, you also have to flash the EB01 modem. If you want to flash the ROM (which is found in the first post of this thread) by itself through clockworkmod recovery, you will also need to flash the EB01 modem which can be found here: http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...ckwork-flashable-froyo-eb01-root-busybox.html Or you can just use one of DroidXcon's all-in-one ODIN packages located here: http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...ged-roms-w-root-clockwork-updated-3-04-a.html Use the EB16SC28_DXC.tar and it will wipe your phone for you, you will get sc 2.8, the modem, clockworkmod recovery, and keep your root.

EDIT - Look at that. As I was typing our wonderful moderator moved your post to the superclean thread so I edited my response slightly.

Are you talking about running lag fix without going to voodoo? If so I think there is not point in doing it. What is your reason for wanting to do it? If it is in an attempt to make your phone faster, I may be mistaken but you will probably not see a difference. If you are wanting to go to voodoo, I would ask the same question and give the same answer. You can read about voodoo here: http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...ks/55753-how-voodoo-updated-3-mar-2011-a.html and any future questions about voodoo should be posted in that thread. If you are considering going to voodoo please read the instructions very carefully and pay extreme attention to Gunnermike53's disclaimer and warning that new rooters should not attempt voodoo until they have been using nonvoodoo for a while and have gained some experience, knowledge, and proficiency at flashing different things in nonvoodoo. Using voodoo is trickier and you have to pay very close attention to what you are flashing. It is much easier to make a mistake that will bork your phone in voodoo.

hehehe I "borked" mine a few times in voodoo, gained some good experience though

Not sure since I have never bothered with a full page calendar as I like my homescreens as uncluttered as I can possibly get them. I just have a shortcut icon for my calendar in one of my launcher pro docks. You should probably move this question to one of the stickies dealing with rooting as this is not a question specific to the superclean ROM and we are trying to keep Adrynalye's thread from exploding into another 250 page monster with questions and answers that don't directly deal with the superclean ROM. You may also consider using the search function here at the forums and put calendar or full page calendar in the search box and choose threads.

Well put, I probably should have done this also but I was hoping there was an easy solution in SC that I wasn't aware of. Keep up the good work shark!

Edit: You beat me to it! lol

Off topic I know, but I have Jorte has some nice options for Calendar widgets along with a great program to replace the stock calendar.

I am also playing around with Android Agenda Widget. This displays an agenda rather than a monthly or weekly view. It is very customizable.

Both of these work with the online Google Calendar.

Well it is also good experience to bork your phone on nonvoodoo so you will have a better understanding of how to deal with it if you bork your phone on voodoo, as from what I have heard it is easier to cause more serious and harmful damage on voodoo than on nonvoodoo. No personal experience, just what I have read, so I can not verify that info. Just prefer to put the warning and info out there just in case. And check out my response to ITF36059 for a clarification in that flashing a modem by itself in ODIN or a ROM by itself through clockworkmod recovery does not in and of itself wipe your phone. Using one of DroidXcon's wipe packages does though, but that is by design and you will notice he has no wipe versions also which reinforces the fact that flashing does not in and of itself wipe your phone.

Not a huge problem I hope, sorry Adrynalyne. The calendar question just seemed like more of a general question or a launcher (ui) question. I also have launcher pro (LP) and will try a few things to see if I can get a full page calendar. If I figure it out I will PM you.

Wouldn't it always be better to wipe everything and start clean before flashing a new ROM? I'm aware that a lot of times you don't HAVE to, but then aren't you just opening yourself up for more problems in the end?

I would venture to assume that starting with a clean slate would usually be the easiest most hassle free way of doing things in the end. So I suggested he back up everything first then flash one of DroidXcon's wipe packages, so then he would have a nice clean installation of 2.8

I get what you're saying I just made some assumptions about what would be easiest based on what he said.

Adrynalyne has addressed the issue of wiping and he is THE expert, and DroidXcon (Sorry if I'm speaking out of turn by basically speaking for anyone else about their stance on this) and several other experts who know more than I do have concurred with the following advice given by Adrynalyne - When you are going from one ROM to another and they are based on the same build - like a lot of people are doing right now with EB01 builds, there is no need to wipe data, cache, or dalvik cache unless you run into problems after flashing. If you are flashing from a different build - say DL09 or EA28 to EB01, then you need to do a full clean slate wipe of data, cache, dalvik cache because of the completely different operating system (OS 2.1 on DL09 and EA28, OS 2.2 on EB01.) When Adrynalyne put out sc 2.5 he recommended everyone who was on sc 2.0 through sc 2.4 wipe at least dalvik cache because of the merged EB01/EB16 kernel. There are other methods of flashing ROMs besides DroidXcon's all-in-one ODIN packages such as flashing the modem in ODIN and flashing the ROM separately in cwm in which case you have to do the wiping manually through cwm. I just didn't want new rooters reading this to be misinformed in thinking that the act of flashing a ROM wipes their phone. Part of the purpose of these forums and rooting is learning everything about your phone and what you can do to and with it.

I also encourage as many new rooters as I can to use DroidXcon's all-in-one packages. But as members gain experience I also let them know how to flash things separately through clockworkmod recovery (cwm) to expand their knowledge base and provide them with a new experience and options to explore. Especially since DroidXcon has not put together ODIN packages for themes, so the only way to flash a theme is through cwm so anyone wanting to flash a theme will have to learn how to use cwm.

Sorry about cluttering up your thread Adrynalyne, I just wanted to make that point clear so anyone reading these posts was not confused thinking that flashing something wiped their phone.

Yeah I saw it got moved np for me. Thanks for the info BTW, I was in the other threads and kinda got overwhelmed by all the variants. Know I know what to look for.

Hey thanks, I was just curious. I'll refrain. And I really appreciate everyone dealing so kindly with such a nanonite like myself.

With that said,

I had a problem downloading a .pdf file from a page. Any ideas? Couldnt download at all.
I've installed Thinkfree office....

Welcome. Good luck with whichever method you choose.

I hope you and anyone else who reads these posts do not think I am telling everyone to absolutely not try switching to voodoo. Just want to throw the info and caveat out there so everyone is informed, prepared, and can make the best decision that suits their needs and desires. Gunnermike53 is an outstanding resource for anything voodoo, as is Sheepdog Elite.

Were you trying to download from the browser? There have been issues downloading from the browser so Adrynalyne has a link in the first post of this thread for the EB01 debinged browser. Download that to your sd card and flash it through cwm to hopefully correct the download problem.

So if I was coming from ea28 and 2.1 to SuperClean by Droidxcon do I need to do a davlik wipe first? If so how do I do that?
