Retrieve Text Messages

Hi Guys,

I need some help. I'm in the middle of a court case and need some text messages to use as evidence. The other party has attempted to destroy the phone, so the screen is smashed. However, when I plug it into windows 10 PC it connects as a USB device. I am able to see all the directories, photo's etc.

What is the easiest way to download the text messages?
