Returning a Nexus 7

I bought my N7 last week from a local Staples. I was wondering if I could return it, or if there would be an issue because I received the $25 credit for the Google store and the free movie, books, and magazines?

The credit comes from Google so I don't think the $25 credit matters to staples. The only way to find out if you can return it is to check with staples on their policy with open box items.

Why are you returning the Nexus 7?

Because it's starting to make creaking noises when I pick it up or use it. Many people have reported that the screen lift could cause the screen to actually break, which wouldn't be covered by warranty. This screen lift problem is simply too big of an issue to avoid, and I am not willing to throw out $214 if the screen cracks. Just the fact that the screen could crack from finger pressure is completely crazy.

I have the C70 serial number and at the beginning it seemed fine, but now it's creaking which shows me that it will probably just get worse like so many other people's N7. I'd rather just wait until this issue is actually fixed.

Staples gives you 2 weeks... Aka 14 days to return a tech product. Open or not. So you can return it... OR exchange it if they have more available.

Let me get this straight. You're returning it because you heard a "creak" noise and someone with a problem you apparently don't have said it might be a problem for others and you don't want to worry about maybe others might mean you?

Sounds to me like buyers remorse, it happens all the time on all types of impulse purchases. Looking for something that's not necessarily there so you can justify a return. Staples will take it no questions asked before 14 day period.

Lots of assumptions in this here post of yours.

There have been many reports of the screen cracking because of screen lift. I don't blame the OP. Why not return it? Why take the risk of a screen cracking and being out of your 14 day window. After that you are at the mercy of Asus, and having to explain the screen cracked due to a defect of their and not because you abused it.

Thanks, I just went there and returned it without a problem. I just wonder what is going to happen to the $25 credit and the Transformers movie (it's listed as a purchased movie on YouTube under my account).

I don't know where you are going with this, but the creaking noise is clearly the screen lifting up. This is a very large issue and it has not been corrected, even people with the newest models are having this same problem. I returned it because I do not want a defective product. I also returned it because I do not want to gamble with $214 and take the chance of the screen cracking.

This isn't buyer's remorse and I have no idea why you would even bring that up. Do you have nothing better to do than make wild, baseless assertions?

Thank you, I appreciate you backing me up. There are so many great members of this forum, but unfortunately there are a handful of people who just post in threads to insult people and cause trouble.

There have been several reports of the screen lift problem causing a stress crack in the screen, which cracking Google and Asus will not cover under warranty. Even though it is directly caused by a manufacturing defect.

The right answer is for Google and Asus to cover a cracked screen caused by this defect (as opposed to cracked screens from a drop) but until they do, I can't blame someone who sees the warning signs and returns the product prophylactically. And I say that as someone who really likes my Nexus 7.

I agree. $200 is a lot of $$ and I'd want to make sure I got a device that's as close to perfect as possible. If I were in the OP's shoes I'd be doing the same thing especially if I were within the 14 day return period.

The N7 is pretty awesome, but I just don't want to gamble with it. I had my fun with it over the last week that I played with it, so that immediate thrill wore off a bit. Now I can wait patiently for a new batch in which the issue is fixed.

I had the screen lift issue too, but I managed to fix it. I just popped the back off, removed the foam pad on the left side (when the screen is facing you) and tightened down the screws. It's perfect now.

Nothing. U still have the $25 credited to your account. So.. Yeah.

I think I had a small screen lift issue too... I think. Lol. But I held it so much it has seemed to seal the screen back in place. Haha. I can understand why one would want to return though. My screen lift was hardly noticeable unless you held it under a microscope.
