My Optimus ROM is no longer rooted as I used KP-500 to roll back to VD, however I still have a custom recovery. I tried the return to stock thread but all the links are borked. Can someone please point me in the right direction to get this thing back to a stock state? If you have the files and can link me to them I would appreciate it.

thanks

I dont have the stock recovery but it occurs to me ... can't you force flash VC then OTA to VD? Wouldn't that replace the recovery?

Correction, I used KP-500 to force flash VC on my Optimus S. So you are saying if I take the available OTA it will replace my recovery to stock, and not brick me? This phone is so damn finicky, lol.

Thanks

I'm not positive but if i recall, OTA will update the OS, the baseband, and put stock recovery back on. The problem people were having with OTA's wasn't bricking, it was replacing the custom recovery with the stock recovery and it patched the root exploit so then they had a stock ROM, a stock recovery, and no way to root. That's why people were using the LG tool because it doesn't replace the custom recovery so all it did was update the baseband and OS but left recovery. You could then flash an already rooted ROM which finished off the last part of the puzzle.

So with all that babbling, from my understanding, no it wont brick you. If someone else knows otherwise they can say so.

Here is how Drew got me to V9 recovery:

Here are the steps necessary to flash the stock v9 recovery image.

http://www.mediafire.com/?2fef2vwxj4ah2pc

1) Download this: http://www.mediafire.com/?2fef2vwxj4ah2pc
2) Inside that zip file is a folder called "platform-tools"
3) Copy that folder to the desktop
4) Inside the folder you copied to the desktop, there is a file called "v9recovery.img"
5) Copy v9recovery.img to your sdcard
6) Turn OFF USB Storage
7) Open a command prompt (in Windows XP this is Start->Run then type "cmd" (without quotes) then hit enter
8) In the command prompt, type "cd" (without quotes)
9) Drag the platform-tools FOLDER from the desktop to the command prompt
10) Make absolutely sure there is a single space between "cd" and the rest
11) Hit enter
12) Type "dir" followed by hitting enter
13) One of the files listed should be adb.exe
14) Type "adb shell" and hit enter
15) When it connects, type "su" if it shows a dollar sign ($) and not a pound(#)
16) Type "cd /sdcard" and hit enter
17) Type "ls" and hit enter (that's a lowercase L followed by a lowercase S)
18) One of the files listed should be v9recovery.img
19) Type "flash_image recovery /sdcard/v9recovery.img" and hit enter
20) When that finishes, type "reboot recovery" and hit enter

Should reboot into LG stock v9 recovery.

If you accept the OTA while having a custom recovery, it either wont work at all, or will try to flash radio and that will brick you. Do what telemike suggested first, then update OTA.

EDIT: You need to be rooted first. Then follow the ahove post. Then update.

I will take the long route, re-root and go through the steps. I am worried about the OTA, I remember when VC was issued, some got bricks while some it seemed to work, and others it worked but kept rooted recovery kernel. Wasnt that around Lego ROM time, been a while...

Whoever you sell it to make sure you send them over to androidcentral!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

ROM wasnt rooted so I flashed stock recovery while in my custom recovery. Worked fine, Thanks Again!

OH, and now I am contemplating keeping this as a back-up device :-\ If I do end up selling I will def send them to A.C. :)

EDIT.....Looks like I am forced to keep the phone. A power down, or a battery pull and I can NOT restart phone by using power button alone. I must restart through recovery. It has been this way for some time now. I always contributed it to the custom recovery. Has anyone else seen or heard of this issue yet/before? When trying to boot using power button after a power down or battery pull the phone gets stuck at black LG screen, I must fight my way into recovery and chose the reboot option from there.

thanks

I just want to update this a bit. If you read the edit above the phone will now power cycle without getting stuck on the black LG screen. OK, good to go right? NOPE! If the battery dies a push of the power button sends the phone into the black LG screen! WTF is up with this? Something is wrong with my partitions is my guess... Anyway I can get to recovery and use the reboot option to get to the stock non-rooted rom. Because of this I can not sell the device, although its not going to hurt the wallet as I seen the optimus s going for $50 or less, used on ebay. I was thinking I could pull $100 from it, o'well. It will make a great back-up phone!

If anyone has any idea why it still kicks into the black LG screen when battery dies please fill me in. OH, what makes it even more odd is if I pull the battery it does NOT do the black LG screen loop. It boots right up

thanks
