Returns

Yes they recommend because they know it's so easy to make that honest mistake. And it's a good recommendation absolutely.
I believe there have been some failures with resets for whatever reason. I had a reset not completely wipe a phone once. This was before FRP and I know I hit the right reset.

That's what I'm saying. Thought there was a built in safety that prevents the phone from being stolen and wiped.
Yeah but when you factory data reset from settings, that's the reason it'll ask for the device password followed by the Samsung account password so that it disables and removes all those FRP and other things.

That makes sense then. Then you gotta be logged in to do it.
The reason factory reset just wipes data in recovery because anyone could do it and take over your device it's called Factory reset protection (FRP) you need to do in settings the factory reset to erase accounts one shot

Sure we don't know the circumstances or what actually happened but factory data reset is supposed to and will take care of everything including FRP. At the end it could fail for whatever reason in some cases.

Either way you log out of accounts before factory reset or just do factory reset, you need to always make sure it's actually reset by going thru initial set up screen to make sure it doesn't ask for password.

So you think the people having trouble are using recovery?

That's what what I do... verify

As you see one member just mentioned doing through recovery is wrong it only wipes data not accounts it will still have your account in place as a FRP ...

No human error of doing just reset and not factory data reset is my guess since majority users aren't going to know about recovery.

Also note the screenshot I posted earlier is from Samsung, different phones have different reset menus. Pixel like shown below is much more clear but some other phones it may be not. In Samsung honestly it's not clear and you have to read finer details, it's very easy for normal folks to make that mistake.

Yup , I agree

In my case, it was a factory reset, cause I believe (not too sure at this time) a FACTORY RESET requires the 4-digit pass code I assigned just before attempting to enter my thumbprint and I was required to enter that 4-digit number before the factory reset was performed.

However, in all likelihood, I will never know why the phone is being returned to me, unless after Samsung receives it back, they call me and tell me what the problem is (or they have to explain in a court). Because I am not accepting delivery.

Good luck with that. Hope your credit company takes your point of view if Samsung provides justification. I think they may and I'm sure they can get around the protection if they want to and if that's the issue.

It won't be a problem. Since the phone was returned, and I have evidence of that from Samsung in the form of an email from them stating the item was returned, and then another emails stating item is being sent back, they will have to show proof I accepted the item when it was returned to me. If I don't sign, and FedEx tracking records show it was returned back to Samsung, there's the proof it is not in my possession.

What this will do is make Samsung come forward with the very simple act of informing me why it was being returned.

If there is was a problem and the phone was not totally reset, which I could see might happen in some circumstances (computers do get glitches at times); then if they had notified me of this, I would have accepted the return phone, did what was necessary and then returned to Samsung. However, I have to believe they have the means to wipe that phone and make it as clean as the day it was manufactured.

That's my problem! I'm not upset the phone would not work for me; I've had problems with fingerprint readers with my thumb before. Thought it was worth a try to find out if it would work or not, especially if their return policy is as stated by Samsung.

I'm unhappy with cryptic email that states:

"Unfortunately, we cannot grant you a refund for US********* because there was
an issue with your returned item. Please review the reason:
We are preparing to send your product back to you. Please watch for an email from
Samsung with a tracking order for the return shipment.
Sincerely,
Your Samsung Support Team"

That is the entire email.....NO REASON GIVEN.

And when I sign into my account, I can see the order, but cannot view "order details." It states, "We are unable to process your request at this time" in big red letters.

And I called twice and talked to two different areas; last time to a supervisor; or so I was told. And each time the call was over one hour, and they kept placing me on hold and talking to a contact (or getting another cup of coffee, Kapeng barako, Sago’t gulaman or other Philippine drinks (call center is in the Philippines). I was even told that there is only one copy of the document sent back with the phone stating the reason for return (that I know is a load of BS). Large corporations are like the US government I retired from, they do not issue one page documents and not keep copies (and usually in at least triplicate). Somewhere in Samsung's internal computer system there is a copy of what is in that return box.

So, with the full timeline I have documented, along with phone records showing calls to Samsung's call center, emails showing deliveries, and returns, etc., I'm really not worried. There is no actual point of view, there will be actual proof I do not have the phone in my possession.

Also, that was three days ago and still no email with any tracking number for a returned package.

Life goes on......

Maybe it's just me, but I'm super curious what this "note" Samsung says is in the returned box says. I'd have to accept the delivery just to see what it says.

I'm curious as heck. That's why I called Samsung twice and spent a few hours on the phone, listening to "terrible" on-hold music designed, I'm sure, to drive a person insane.

However, under advice of a good friend, who happens to be a retired (but still licensed in Idaho) attorney; "force their hand to disclose the reason of return." They will have to eventually. We talked, and I agree with his view, Samsung is acting non-professional in this matter. He has never had a company refuse to disclose a reason for a return, and I don't believe I have either. However, I cannot remember the last time I ever returned an item to any company, other than Amazon. And never a problem. Heck, I had to return the case and screen protectors for this phone to Amazon and there was absolutely no problem.

I don't blame you. I would do the same thing. I wouldn't accept a dam thing until i got an explanation.

I'm really curious as to why I paid 475ish and am only getting back 295ish. See the pic. I chatted with them last week and they said the whole total would be refunded but I'm skeptical since it now officially says this(see screen).Screenshot_20200316-152638_Gmail.jpeg

And that’s what made me only choose the phone, but mine has been in their warehouse for almost a week and I have no refund, no status update, and a special ticket looking into it.

I have still not received any shipping notification from Samsung with a tracking number as noted in the last email from Samsung. I cannot officially file a claim until the statement with the amount of the charge from Samsung. So, I'm just in a waiting game and coming to believe their receiving department might be as screwed up as their shipping.
I have seen some other problems with returned items on their community forum.

As for the return of the free buds. When the woman issued the return RMA and the return fedEx mailer she noted that I had to return the buds when received (two days later) or I would be charge 149 bucks for them. At that time I said there was no problem. However, after receiving the buds and trying them, I determined they did not sound that great and returned them. They have been accepted and an email stating the buds (and that little adapter thingy for transferring data) were accepted "successfully."
