Yes, don't mock me. I have owned the Ipad 1, Ipad 2, Motorola Xoom, BB Playbook and Asus Transformer. None of those tablets were keepers in my mind. I grew bored of the iPads very quickly and they are excellent consumer devices, but so so for both consumer and business use, the Xoom was decent, but heavy and always laggy no matter what update was installed, the BB Playbook had a cool OS but with very limited functionality and horrible battery life, the Asus Transformer had very chintzy feel and was overall not very refined.
As you can see I have been searching for some time to find the ideal tablet. I wanted a companion to my iPhone 4G . I am happy to report that my quest finally ended today and I just picked up an Evo View today in Los Angeles. Sadly, the overall purchasing experience was terrible. I have no idea where in the world Sprint finds its store employees. The employee that helped me was super nice, but the only thing he knew about the Evo View was 1. Where it was located in the store 2. That it ran Gingerbread. Other than that, he was clueless. Wake the hell up Sprint and hire some decent employees or else you will fade faster than last year's flagship Android phone. In case you haven't noticed the Tmo / ATT duo is looking to bury your a$$.
Sorry for the rant and back to the Evo View. The build quality on this device is superb. Fit and finish are excellent and it feels / looks like a premium device. The only other devices that meet or exceed its build are the iPad and the Playbook. In terms of software I must few one of the very few that 1. Are not whining about the lack of a dual core processor 2. Not whining about the use of Gingerbread instead of Honeycomb. Gingerbread feels right at home on a 7" screen. Also, HTC Sense is so friggin sweet that the only thing I miss about Honeycomb is the lack of Google Video chat that isn't included w/ Gingerbread.
What a lot of people have not pointed out is that the Sprint data plans $29.99 and up include unlimited texting. This means that I have a tablet that I can text from, e-mail from, skype from (voice only), and video chat from (qik). That's what I'm talking about. One thing to note: You have to call up Sprint customer service and tell them to "Deactivate the Welcome Call" or else texting will not work on this device.
HTC Scribe is superbly executed. The duma$$es who design Windows tablets should license Scribe from HTC. Seriously, I have never seen a pen based tablet that does inking so beautifully and am totally blown away by how cool Scribe is. My only complaint is that palm rejection could be slightly better. Hopefully a firmware update will improve this.
What else? Overall performance is super snappy and I detected zero lag unlike the Xoom. The screen is excellent including brightness, clarity, viewing angles, etc. Battery life seems to be really strong even with wifi / 3G turned on. I didn't get a chance to test 4G since I don't have the 4G data plan. Also, HTC has paid attention to absolutely every aspect of this device. For example, the power button doubles as an LED notification light. Why the hell can't Apple put led lights on their devices?
I have nothing but praise for this device and although I really love Apple's commitment to design, build quality and overall usability I must say that HTC has won me over. Apple is becoming a bit passe and imho seems to have lost momentum.
