Hey, I'm kind of a noob when it comes to ROMS and rooting and what not, but I like many others couldn't wait for ICS any longer! I picked a ROM and it told me to root and install clockworkmod. I rooted and everything went perfectly well. Then I installed ROMManager and flashed clockworkmod. I was curious to see what recovery mode looked like with cwm so I rebooted and held down the volume down button. I was delighted to see that cwm had flashed successfully. That's when things started to go wrong. I hit 'reboot' and the phone just went into an endless reboot. :'( White HTC screen, beats audio, 4GLTE, lock screen. The lock screen would be functional for about 20 seconds, then it would freeze up and The whole thing would repeat. I'm really scared!! If I send it back to Verizon they'll be able to see thats it's rooted and what not and my warranty will be defected. PLEASE HELP!!

Thanks,

First, relax, you are ok.

Next, I didn't read your whole post but the issue is with clock work mod and rom manager.

Go to the stickies from Mr. Smith and go to the rooting section. Follow his instructions on how to root. Use amon ra, not cwm.

If you follow those directions you will be fine in no time

Thanks so much for responding! I'll get on that asap! But since it's endlessly rebooting, how do I re-root it?

EDIT: Nevermind, I think I got it. But is there anything I have to do to remove the previous root or anything like that? Or it there any way to bring it back to it's factory state (no root, locked, etc.)?

I would recommend using amonra by the way....clockwork will give you problems if you let your battery drain to 0.

Will do, but is there anything I have to do before rooting with amonra? Because my phone is technically already unlocked and rooted. Is there any way I can undo all of this and redo it using Mr.Smith's guide?

No I'm really confused. I relocked my bootloader and rebooted my phone without the back case and it worked! But when I try using it with the back case, it freezes up again and starts rebooting. I have no idea what's going on!

No just go with the guide. You do not really need to go to stock. If you want to, let me know and I will dig out the ruu that will get you there.

Darn I see I got to you too late. Just go follow his guide. You will have to unlock again.

The reason you had that issue is that you have to upgrade the firmware to get to ics. You are running ics with gingerbread firmware and that doesn't work

Ok, thanks so much! I'll get on that and tell you how it goes. Should I just do all of this with the back case off?

Thanks.

Ok so I relocked my bootloader, and now my phone won't go into recovery mode, it won't even turn on. Bricked? :( :( :( :(

Pulled my battery out, put it back in. Orange led light comes on. Hold down power and vol down, led shuts off, screen remains off....

Yay, it turned on! Is there any way I can go into recovery mode from the normal phone Os thing? I don't want to turn off and turn on my phone again..

Sorry for all the posts guys. I'm at the rooting part of Mr.Smith's guide and at this part "Fastboot flash recovery ..\recovery-ra-vigor-3.14-gnm.img
Fastboot reboot-bootloader" it tells me that the recovery img file cannot be loaded. What do I do?

Try renaming it to something shorter. I think i had an issue like that and named it ra.img.
