Rezound or Razr...that is the question?

And HTC's official position is that they do not want their bootloaders unlocked, and will defer to the carrier. That hasn't changed.

Erm...no it's not. They supply the unlocking method themselves. Hell, they even delivered on their commitment to unlocking bootloaders by the end of 2011.
I know you like Motorola and are trying to defend it, but let's call a spade a spade. Sanjay's "pledge" to unlock by 2011 bit the dust big time.

I tried to tell droid800 about the unlocked bootloader but he wouldn't listen. Lol

"The rezound's camera is about the same as the RAZR's."
Not hardly. Actually, the Rezound has been found to take better pictures than the 4S, which supposedly has the best camera.

Also, sense sucks compared to motoblur. It's a giant resource hog.
I have used LOTS of Moto phones and absolutely despise Motoblur. It is far and away the worst of the three Vendor UIs IMO.

Not that I like any of them mind you, but at least Sense is prettier. They are all resource hogs. There is nothing at all special about Motoblur.

Even though Motoblur is a full skin, it's much lighter weight and much more resource friendly than sense could ever be.
That has not been my experience. Using it on the Droid 2 was awful. It was ugly and I saw no indication at all that it slowed down stuff less than Sense. There are things I like about Motorola, but their UI is NOT one of them.

Me: HTC is allowing you to unlock the bootloader "legally" on their site (I have done this to mine already, and it does work great). I am now Sense and bloat free, and the phone is even faster (it was already very snappy before). Motorola is unlikely to ever do this...they havebeen assholes when it comes to rooting.

Motorola does what the carriers ask.
As an end user, I would rather that they do what *I* ask. I am the one buying the phone after all.

If they dont want to, I will go to a company that will. Their control freak bootloader policy was a major factor in my decision to jump to HTC.

They have been asked not to allow unlocked boot loaders, so they haven't. Their stance is no different than HTC's.
LOL, then why is my HTC phone unlocked right now? HTC allowed me to do that. Motorola does not and has no plans to.

Even Samsung at least stays out of the way, even if they dont officially allow you to do it. Motorola actively tries to stop it. They are assholes about it.

HTC releases tool to unlock bootloaders on its devices HTC has released a tool to unlock the bootloader in some of its Android devices, the company announced today. According to a posting on HTCDev, HTC will allow the bootloader to be unlocked on every phone it releases going forward, and will also be working backwards to make unlocking tools for phones released prior to September 2011. http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/news/2011/12/htc-has-released-a-tool.ars

In response to JeffDenver-
I understand that you dont like motoblur, but I don't really see it on the razr. This my first moto phone and I don't feel like the motoblur gets in the way. In fact, for me its really hard to recognize what is blur and what isn't. It feels alot more stripped down than the evo I previously had. Like I said this is my first moto phone so I don't know what the experience was like on the other moto's. I didn't mind sense, other than making the phone lag a little and being such a resource hog. Overall the experience was somewhat pleasant for me. I ended up keeping the razr but this will be my last moto phone if they dont unlock the bootloader. I dont understand motos thought process in keeping it locked. Grrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This will be your last Moto phone then...because they will resist unlocking kicking and screaming. They have as much as said so in the past. This stuff is the reason I dont like Moto anymore. It would not even be an issue if they would give us an unlock option.

I honestly dont know why they have such a bug up their butt about it...maybe rooters are eating into their support services a lot or something. But I would be really shocked to see them do anything like HTC is doing. Hell, I would be shocked even if they adopted Samsung's "Live and let live" policy.

Crap...the painful truth. Oh well I can always sell it if I have to. I am stuck with the razr now because I am over my 14 day period. At least I'm stuck with a pretty awesome phone.

Then explain why HTCs devices remain locked when shipped, with no change in that policy coming any time soon. Their official position is that bootloaders should be locked.

Ha. Thats actually amusing. The rezound's quality is worse than the gsII's and the gsII's are worse than the 4s'.

That you would even think that the resource use of notBlur is even close to sense says all we need to know. Sense, even though it may be pretty, is the fat cow of android skins.

This must have been some time ago, which makes your opinion worthless since you haven't used the gingerbread version.

You are quite dense, you do realize that?

Question: did your rezound come with its bootloader unlocked? No? That proves my point. There's a reason why the unlock tool is a part of HTCDEV, and it has nothing to do with a shift in HTCs stance. Their official policy is that bootloaders should be locked. You will never see them ship another unlocked device. (and the unlocker tool doesn't even unlock the device all the way, in case you haven't noticed) Their stance HAS NOT changed in the slightest from what it was before. Like it or not, HTC is still on the wrong side of bootloader policy, and not even comparable to Samsung or LG.

As for Motorola: we'll see. I don't much care, as I don't plan on buying a Motorola again unless it's a nexus.

You are looking through GN and Apple-colored glasses. If you will read some reviews, you will see that the Rezound has a better camera.
Are you mad because you didn't get a Rezound?

Because carriers and manufacturers aren't going to honor a warranty on an unlocked phone in case Joe Schmo decides to mess around on his phone and brick it. Even the G-Nex shipped locked.
With unlocking, you void your warranty, which cuts the replacement burden from the carrier/manufacturer, and you're free to root, flash, and kernel away at your own risk.

This must have been some time ago, which makes your opinion worthless since you haven't used the gingerbread version.
Yes, I am sure the gingerbread version is magical and different.

You are quite dense, you do realize that?
And you are so polite. lol

Its a phone dude...I'm not insulting your mother. Relax.

Question: did your rezound come with its bootloader unlocked?
Why did it need to if I can unlock it myself?

Their official policy is that bootloaders should be locked.
Then why are they letting me unlock it? That is like the state saying speeding is illegal, but if you sign a waiver you're allowed to speed. LOL

Like it or not, HTC is still on the wrong side of bootloader policy, and not even comparable to Samsung or LG.
LOL! If this is "wrong" then I dont wanna be right.

Just like to point something out... I used to be a manager of an assembly floor and from an efficiency standpoint regarding shipping the phones with a locked or unlocked boot loader... HTC's factory floor is setup to manufacture phones with the locked bootloaders.

Would it be cheaper for them to:

A) Alter their assembly process so that all phones shipped after 'x' date are unlocked

-OR-

B) Use their already existing htcdev website and bootloader unlocking program to allow individual users to unlock the phone on their own time, all the while the htcdev site gets ad revenue.

Seems common sense to me.

On to MotoBlur: Coming from a Droid X with gingerbread and motoblur... it was horrid. Why isn't it as noticeable on the RAZR? Because the RAZR has superior hardware to the Droid X. So when it comes to the manufacturer UI's try not to argue without actual facts. Opinion is all fine and well, but it is an opinion.

On the phone cameras: The Rezound is better than the 4S. How do I know this? Well, while this is the internet and I'm sure you're all racecar drivers who date supermodels, I'm good friends with someone who is both a professional photographer and an iPhone 4S owner. He said it himself in person.
