Rezound or RAZR until the Nexus is out?

I wanted a Razr at first, until I saw that Moto put out an HD version with 13 megapixels cameras overseas. Why can't we get that in the US?.

Because it is what the carrier requested. That's often how it is when there is a device with US and international versions. Things are changed or removed to reduce cost and in some cases improve performance.

In this case 13 megapixel is just a gimmick, something added to make it seem better. Anything beyond 6 is actually more than you need, and the true measure of how good a camera is comes from the sensor and optics, not how big the ultimate file size is.

I came from a Droid X to the Rezound.
My best friend went from an OG Droid to the RAZR.

I was briefly able to play with the RAZR, and then he cradled it like a baby again. It's a big phone. It may be thin, but it's still got the Motorola camera bump that the DX has. Length and width the RAZR is bigger than the DX and the Rezound, yet it's got a lower resolution screen, and no removable battery. Once you put a protective case on the phone as well, it's thinness is gone(btw what's the point of putting a case on a phone with a kevlar backing and gorilla glass screen? :P) and it's slightly longer and wider with the case on it.

The Razr seemed to have a nice build quality, but then again so does the Rezound. IMO the only things the Razr has going for it are the thinness and weight, but if a difference of 43 grams is really going to be your decision maker I'm not sure what to think.

The lack of removable battery for the RAZR was a killer for me.

In my opinion the Rezound if superior. Just touting tech specs, it's processor is faster, it's screen is a higher resolution (implied higher DPI), it's got the removable battery, it's not much bigger than a DX.

There are a couple of things about the Rezound that I find odd. For starters, removing the entire back cover to get to the battery and MicroSD card. It seems odd, but for Droid X users who have dropped their phone accidentally that one specific way which enables the cover to pop off and battery to fly out, this will probably prevent that. The physical buttons on the sides of the Rezound are very low profile, and don't give too much feed back to know you've pressed them. For a daily use example: When driving and my Droid X was in my pocket and I received a phone call, I could easily find the volume button to silence the ringtone(while wearing jeans). With the Rezound, it's at this point a lost cause. I just have to suffer through the ringtone (oh the agony! Can anyone say first world problems? hehe). The touch buttons on the face of the phone as well don't offer the same kind of physical feedback when it comes to just feeling without looking. The swapping of the Home button and the Menu button on the HTC (coming from a DX) has got me confused a few times, but this is a non-issue as it just takes getting used to. I don't know about anyone else, but the earpiece on my phone has a slight buzz when the volume is up. Also the in-call volume adjustment doesn't seem to do much in the way of volume, it seems the overall effect is minimum but I will say that I don't need the in-call volume set to max to hear all the time (I did on my DX). The speaker phone is great, and doesn't distort the music an unreasonable amount (keep in mind it's a speaker phone, if you're playing music off it you're not shooting for sound quality to begin with) even at full volume, unlike what the DX did.

Not an issue with the phone directly, but the iBeats headphones that are included seem very bass heavy for rock music, though this can be solved by just fitting the earbuds a bit more loosely in your ear. The sound isolation is decent though, there have been many times where I didn't hear someone talking to me (which I'm okay with haha) when the volume was turned up. The control buttons on the earbuds aren't the fastest. Usually you press the button, a second passes and then the music changes. That's again a first world problem though. My biggest gripe about the headphones (and possibly the biggest FWP of the whole post) is that they like to tangle and twist, and just otherwise act unruly. I feel like I may need to take a hair dryer to them to get the strange twists and turns out so their not constantly looping around themselves. They did come with a nifty little pouch though, in which I store one of the black elastics the phone came with to help keep some sort of order when I'm not using the headphones.

So first world problems aside, I really like the Rezound. I'm happy with choosing it over the RAZR, and wouldn't trade it. I'm not interested in the Galaxy, and I'll be staying with the Rezound for at least a year if not more(I spent 14 months with the DX, only about 3 of which were on the stock non-rooted OS lol). I don't even think I'll ROM this phone, the most I'd do is root to delete some of those dumb apps (Let's Golf 2 HD, you can only play two holes?! Really?! The app when installed takes up some 100+Mb for 2 holes?!)

If anyone has questions, I'd be happy to answer.

Agreed there is no need of a protective case for the RAZR.

For a lot of people, but Moto has some new software for battery management which is getting good reviews.

Specs wise the Rezound IS better, but in my time comparing the two of them I think it is only marginally faster in actual performance. I'm not talking benchmarks here but rather just overall feel of the phone when actually doing things.

Most HTC phones are that way DINc, DInc2, TBolt (well except the part woth the kickstand)), and I believe the various Sensations are that way too. Offhand the only one I can think of that isnt that way is the Inspire which you take part of the side off for the battery and part of the bottom of the phone for the SIM card.

I think it is a really close call between the two devices and ultimately comes down to personal preference. Glad you are enjoying your purchase :)

Yeah that's because Sense is more deeply integrated than another other OEM UI. But the average user wouldn't notice and probably would appreciate Sense more than us that understand how it bogs down the phone. I'll be interested to see what this phone can do when people are able to put vanilla android ROMs on it. I think it will fly.

I don't consider it bogged down at all.

I agree it isn't bogged down at all. Performance is smooth compared to what my DX was like on MotoBlur stock.

As for the software battery management, I'm not entirely impressed by it. I suppose it's a thoughtful feature, but I know I wouldn't find much use in it, especially if I ever wanted to try a different ROM.

I came from a Droid X to to the Rezound. Was waiting in the Nexus too...but I am very impressed with the rezound so far. Compared to the screen in the RAZR...well there is no comparison. This screen blows the Moto screen away! Feels better in the hand too. And I hate Blur...

This is an excellent device!

Same here, I was scared that after awhile the droid razr was going to go bad like my droid x did, so I'll give the rezound a try.

Personally, I don't think it's really bogged down but HTC devices with Sense consistently have lower benchmarks than other comparable Androids. And it's not because of hardware, it's because of Sense. But I'm not saying that's a bad thing, just saying. You try this same phone with vanilla Android, I bet it flies even faster than it is and then we would all see the effect that Sense really has on it. Even installed a launcher would give a good glimpse of how fast this device really is. Just my experience with the EVO and Thunderbolt, once I got rid of Sense the phone performed even better and it's not like they were slow performers anyway.

Benchmarks are meaningless, and most are not optimized for multi-core devices. Phil and company recognize this which is why they don't put them in reviews anymore.

If Apple has shown us one thing it is that the "user experience" reigns supreme, and to many of us -- especially those of us into social networking -- Sense is the best experience on Android.

I fully agree. I never said anything was wrong with Sense. But it's just fact that because of how deeply integrated it is, it'll be slightly slower. I don't mean lag or anything like that. Just compared to Vanilla Android or a skin that isn't as robust with comparable hardware, it will be slightly slow BUT most likely more smooth. This is with EVERY HTC device and not just the rezound. Go read some reviews and see if everyone is just making it up. But again, I prefer it over everything else. But preferring it doesn't mean I have to be delusional too.

I ordered the Rezound yesterday and I'm expecting it today. I saw the screen in person and was pretty much blown away. Can't wait to get this phone!
If you take a second to analyze things in an unbiased way, you'll realize the only things the Nexus has going for it are ICS and little/no bloatware.

Why would anyone want 13 mega pixels on a TINY cell phone camera sensor is beyond reason. Th pixel density is way to hi make cell size way to small. This will really increase signal to noise ration and reduce low light sensitivity. Much better off with a lower pixel count the promotes digital noise reduction, high dynamic range, and low light shooting.

Very likely why it is only 8MP on the US version.
