Rezound owner looking for honest advice.

This was my initial thought. I am thinking you should have just held out a few weeks for the Nexus when it first came out. Even if it is announced at some point that the "SGSIII" will come to Verizon, it won't be until fall. It sounds like you want another phone now. Phones are always improving spec wise. If you are always wanting the best that is out, you will never be satisfied. Most phones coming out now should be future proof until your contract expires. My suggestion is that if you are that worried about what OS will be on your phone is to learn how to root.

I'd be open to rooting, but there doesn't seem to be a rock solid ROM out yet. Sadly, I'm a when it comes to using a computer. I'd need solid evidence that whatever ROM I use to root won't have any adverse side effects. I'd also need the help of another person that has experience rooting.

There are TONS of stable ROMs out there. When you choose a ROM just make sure you pick a stable release and not a nightly. There is so much information out there on how to root. You just need to do your homework. You are not learning how to speak a different language or how to actually write code.
If all this proves too difficult, you will just need to be at the mercy of when Verizon and the manufacturer decides to release updates. Talk to friends and family to see if they have rooted.

I'd need someone to help me through the process of not only rooting, but choosing the right ROM for me. Ugh, so torn. The Rezound is a solid phone with great reception and a gorgeous screen, but the Nexus is getting prettier by the day...

Even if they do get the sgs3( which with verizon it would probably be months later than everyone else) samsung is awful with updates in the US. Look at the fascinate( verizon's version of the sgs) it didn't get the gb update until shortly before ics was released. Being a nexus, it will continue having great developer following and will have the latest os within a few days after it is released due to developers and even if you do not want to root and do all that it still most likely will have the new OS before just about every other phone.

These are both one click Unlocking/rooting options from 2 different devs. The "WUG" version is posted in the Root section of this forum, and the other is the nexus tool kit for LTE from XDA. I used the tool kit method and everything went smooth as silk. Never had one issue and the directions it shows on screen are excellent and easy to understand. Remember unlocking with erase the phone including the SD card. These in combination with all the reading provided above should give you everything you need.

If you decide to do this, Remember!! Its easier to ask a dumb question and get an immediate answer then to do something your not sure of and mess up the phone. The rooting section above the main verizon nexus forum is full of people looking to help, including myself. Just remember to ask everything or lookup anything your not sure of before making any major moves.
