Rezound vs Galaxy Nexus

I have to say the Nexus is going to have a huge dev following. That means more roms that are better optimized as well as kernels, and a good kernel works just as well if not better than a huge extended battery for improving battery life.

And going back to Poopai's original statement, optimization most certainly is not a fluff word. Good example is game consoles. Saint's Row 2 runs terribly on a PC that is far better hardware wise than a console in every aspect but runs just fine on consoles. Crysis on the other hand is well optimized for PC and still has some of the best graphics 4 years after its release. Different games are optimized for different hardware. Any game running Source Engine ran almost as well on my 5 year old nVidia graphics card as they do on my new ATI card.

This...

Look at emulators too. It takes a lot more hardware to run a Nintendo 64 game via an emulator. Over clocking my Xoom is required for smooth ps1 emulator game play.

True, but emulators are a more extreme example. PS1 games are not designed to run natively on PC or tablet hardware which is why it requires approximately 10x the processing power to emulate.

And more on topic, you brought up all the hardware features the Nexus has. The better accelerometer and NFC (and also the barometer, I guess) are pretty important to me. This way, the Nexus will be able to use pretty much all new software features that take advantage of this hardware. On my Incredible, I can't use anything that requires a front facing camera. The Nexus will be far more future-proof than the Rezound.

You are right. How about this then. The massive speed increases to the iPhone 4 when upgraded to ios5? Pure software on identical hardware.....

They both will be very future proof and nfc can be had with a sd card. I wouldn't say other than updates the nexus is really any more future proof.

That's true. I never really felt I would need a barometer anyways, especially since I don't scale mountains, and I'm still doing just fine with my Incredible's accelerometer. I just didn't know that you could get an NFC SD card. Do those have storage and NFC chips built in, or is it strictly NFC?

Yeah another good example of hardware acceleration.

And very off-topic, is that a 1911 in your avatar?

Less impressive screen, less impressive chipset, smaller battery, no NFC. What about the rezound's hardware is better?

Meh

Dude. The Rezound has a 720p display like the Nexus. and a higher ppi than the iphone. Out the box it's processing speed is faster(although im aware the Nexus is underclocked), the battery life on the Rezound has not been a issue for many from what ive read. I have an extended battery, but only because im a power user and will kill ANY phones battery. and NFC isn't a sought after feature at the moment. What's better? Better camera(im done making excuses for the 5mp camera, it's a dissapointment, although i really don't care), better build material, removable storage which is a big deal for some.

But of course, you would only find the positives of your shiny, new phone. Let's not forget that? I remember with my Incredible, when I first got it, I was able to look past the pathetic battery life and heat issues (I'm not insinuating that the Rezound suffers from these, mind you) because it was "new" and "shiny."

I go through phones within months. Im not bias or clouded at all. I say again, i was just in your shoes a mere 4 days ago waiting on the Nexus. My point isn't to diss the Nexus. Hell i still may get it, im just answering the OP with my opinion and i think the Rezound has a better overall hardware while the Nexus has better software. But some of you are as biased as your making me out to be and don't want to admit simple facts such as the underperforming camera on the Nexus. My phone has negatives. Sense still slows it down, locked bootloader, less than stellar battery, but there's negatives in every phone. The answer is to identify which tradeoffs are worth it for the specific user, and this goes back to what i said in the beginning. If you plan to root then it really doesn't matter, the Rezound can perform as good as the nexus. If you just want a good stock phone, then go Nexus.

Ah, all right. You'll understand my cynicism then, since you change forums so often and probably see it yourself. I didn't mean to come off as rude, if I did.

Yep, Kimber Custom II....their base model but it runs like a top...

I got a S&W 1911 last Black Friday, and it's probably my favorite firearm I own. I looked at a lot of makes including Kimber, but my dad's old S&W 9mm has been great. Went through 200 rounds of 15-20 year old ammo with his 9mm and not a single jam or issue.

As for the Rezound's screen, I have heard it's really crisp but isn't nearly as vibrant as the AMOLED screen on the Nexus. How does it do in sunlight though? My friend's iPhone 3G is clear as day compared to the Incredible's AMOLED screen in a bright environment.

One thing you need to remember is the processor in the Nexus will run circles around the one in the Rezound even at their stock clock speeds. Both of them are good phones, personally I prefer the Nexus though.

No problemo my friend. I get it. Believe it or not, some folks can reach fanboy status and make excuses for phones. Im just not one of them.

What do you mean by run circles around the Rezound?

From Engagdet:
Looking at our benchmark results, it's clear the Galaxy Nexus is no slouch. We're not going to read too much into the Quadrant score, since we're not even sure the app works properly in Ice Cream Sandwich, but it's close to what we observed on the HTC Rezound. The results for most of the other tests match those from the Motorola Droid RAZR (similarly powered by TI's OMAP 4430 chip), except for Neocore, which would crash each time we tried running it. Most impressive is the Sunspider score, which is the lowest we've ever recorded on any phone. In fact, the entire web browser is blazingly fast -- gone is the signature lag that's familiar to anyone who's ever browsed the web on Android.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus HTC Rezound
Quadrant 2,032 2,347
Linpack Single-thread (MFLOPS) 42.85 52.0
Linpack Multi-thread (MFLOPS) 69.37 60.3
Nenamark 1 (fps) 53.03 53.5
Nenamark 2 (fps) 24.26 35.8
Neocore (fps) Would not run 59.8
SunSpider 9.1 (ms) 1,985 2,961

Theres both about the same. Neither is running circles around the other.

The VZW Nexus has a pistol in it!?!!?!?!???!?!!1

Haha, at least I added SOME on-topic content to my posts.

Also keep in mind that the 4460 is (I think) underclocked from 1.5 GHz. That should mean that it will be easily overclocked to 1.5, probably higher. As was debated before, optimization of software for specific hardware has a huge impact on performance, so remember that Google is building Android for the Nexus themselves to work well with the hardware.
