ridding erroneous google contacts from m8 phonebook

again - new android user. today i tried to store a phone number someone msg'd me through facebook to an existing contact in my phonebook. when i went to add it, the phone gave me a list of EVERYONE id contacted via gmail (there's like 400). i have it set to only display "phone" contacts on the contact page, which i prefer, but id prefer the phone not prompt me with such a huge list. how can i disable that so that only my phone contacts appear all the time? do i need to do something on gmail as well? y
