Why can't I get simpleroot to work?
Every time, I received a PING not recognized.. somethin or other (i dont remembet the exact wording) it occurs after SR pushes the files to the phone.
The reason I ask is that i've been asked to root a friends evo from 2.2...I think he is scared of the easy tutorials here lol(which includes a video!) Since I couldn't root via simpleroot, I used unrevoked...but managed to unlock nand and flash roms at will...but would much rather not go through the 12+ hours to get that to work. And simpleroot does all of that in 1 click(or so I thought)

In any case, what is 'PING'? Is that communication program between phone and comp?( gateway m series running xp) Should I just use the unrevoked meathod cuz its not my phone? Should I invest more time and use the old skool meathod (would rather not since time=no money) Is it my pos gateway? Should I search more? Cuz my eyes hurt from all the searching, so I've asked a question.
I tried the 2 click (reloaded that one 3 different times) and the 4 click versions of simple root...the 4 click method just did not work. Rebooted my comp idk how many times.
Any advice, opinion, etc would be appreciated. I thank any and all that make this site awesome. I've learned a lot (too much if you ask fam and friends) and credit AC for it :-)

Use the simple root that's in the sticky, do you have the SDK downloaded correctly?

I did use that exact sticky, and I've had SDK prior for app backups...mostly for trying other root methods before we could do anything with froyo.

I did have a file allocation error with adb...wouldn't let me delete it(so I could reinstall SDK).....f***in gateway...oh well.

So, I will just use another comp. And will use simpleroot. Thanks
