ringer disappears, ringer is up, volume 100% but no ringer.

OK so I have a pixel xl currently in the beta (8.1xx not sure but current beta). This was happening before i was in beta. Not sure if it goes back to nougat but it may be an oreo issue.

So I have tried a bunch of things. First understand its only a notification issue. Meaning youtube, pandora anything media plays sound. But all ringer or notifications get nothing. and yes all in the volume controls shows a full bar.

I have tried default sounds and downloaded ones. The only thing that works is going into app/phone/storage/ clear cache and data. but eventually it comes back. I thought it was my overdrive app I use to listen to library books. I will keep trying to delete apps i think it could be but no luck so far.

i have not. I did call the google hotline. they had me do the cache/data thing which worked for a time.

Try restarting in safe mode before deleting any apps. That starts Android without any of your installed apps running.

Power off.
Press the power button.
After the Google logo shows, when the animation starts, press and hold the volume down button. Keep holding it until the animation ends and the phone starts in safe mode.
You'll see "Safe mode" at the bottom of the screen.

So your saying do that when it happens again? The last time it happened I did the cache clear and it's ok now. Also what will that tell me if it have notification sounds in safe mode but not unsafe mode?

I have the same issue. I had a custom ring tone and it's not working anymore after the update. I can't select anything other than stock ring tones. Can't find a way to fix it.

My brother is having the same prob on his og xl. It's def software that Google needs to fix. Tons of missed calls from me (we work together) everyday lately and he literally just mentioned it to me earlier today

Same issue. Text messages as well. I have to restart several times. I did notice mine started occurring after using Android auto.
