Ringtones

I have a question that I hope somebody here can help me with. I am trying tomake some ringtones out of songs that I synced from my laptop to my phone. Here is problem I am having. I had to switch them from wma files to mp3 files but when I go to edit the songs and make my ringtones it only gives me the first 3 to 4 seconds of the song. Without converting them to mp3 files it won't even let me attempt to make the ringtones. Any help with this? Thanks.

try changing them to OGG files...saves space, and, if your rooted, you can more easily replace the stock files under the media section.
