Roaming blows!

Can someone please tell me why the hell this phone does this: (Or is it Sprint).

There is no service here right now after the hurricane. Sprint says another 2-3 days before it's back here. (Everywhere else is fine it seems).

I get like 1 bar here and there. And then it roams. Full bars. Verizon. It'll bounce back and forth a million times. Till finally it says no service. And gets stuck there for like 5 minutes. How do I have none.... when before I was roaming fine on full service. Until it would find your pathetic signal and stop. And now I have none... That's impossible.

Why does this phone do that?

I agree. Totally infuriating.

I can only suppose that Sprint has to pay for roaming on Verizon's network and hence all phones will give an exaggerated preference to Sprint's own network no matter how weak the signal is.

The only solution I have found is to root the phone and install roam control. This program allows you to force the phone into roaming mode, and while the extra steps to do so are a hassle it is worth it both for making calls and battery life.

The only thing I miss about root is Roam control. Maybe one day I'll root again, lol.

I understand it will always go back to Sprint... but how the hell does it go to NO service with an X for like 15 minutes when I was clearly roaming. There is no signal at all anywhere now? Don't believe it.
