I am new to Sprint, so forgive me if this has already been answered. I come from AT&T where roaming seems to mean out of your network area, or out of the country. Now that I have the EVO 3D with Sprint, the phone seems to roam quite a bit when the signal strength gets low (mostly at my office at work and some restaurants/bars). Is this normal and am I getting charged roaming fees?

Also, when my phone goes into this roaming mode, text messages sometimes get a timestamp of 4-5 hours ahead of what time it actually is. Is this also normal?

I would make sure that your phone doesn't roam. Settings - wireless & networks - mobile networks - set to Sprint only

Don't set it to sprint only...then you will get no signal at all when roaming...have you done all the ota updates? My phone was doing it really bad at work, but it stopped after I did the updates...

Don't worry about making your phone run on Sprint only networks.

Roaming is included in your Sprint plan. When you are roaming, it means it is using Verizon / Alltel towers instead of Sprint towers. You don't pay extra when you use your phone when roaming, but I wouldn't use lots of data when roaming because there is a 300mb limit (or something like that) before you get charged or at least contacted about it.

You get free roaming on Sprint if you just signed up for one of their regular plans. You won't be charged and can roam verizon's 3g data as well. The only thing that won't work are some Sprint services like Sprint Navigation, etc. Just leave it on automatic. If/when we get root for the phone, there is a program called Roam Control that lets you choose to roam all of the time, which can be helpful in some cases.

When it's roaming it keeps making up random text message times. It's getting really annoying, is there anyway to fix it?

I saw that thread, my question was more about the roaming and then why it sets my texts out of order. I want to make sure I'm not getting charged up the butt not to mention if there was a fix for the constant roaming or not.

I understand you SAW the thread but did you READ through it ... It explains why it out of order when roaming and your charges if any depends on your sprint service ... You can find that out at sprintpcs.com.

Mine roams from time to time at work but my Evo 4g did not for the year I've owned it. I'm hoping it can be fixed by an update. But like everyone is saying I'm not too concerned cause we should have free roaming. The timestamp on the text kind of makes sense cause when the phone roams its trying to acquire another cell site it may be picking up a cell not in your state and or time zone. I've seen this happen to my Evo 4g when I use to do speedtest and it would choose michigan or something when I was really in California. Eventually it corrected itself.

You can also try reprovisioning your phone.
