*ROGERS* Captivate - SGH-I896

So...Rogers is *finally* getting around to releasing the Samsung Captivate. Official launch was today but has yet to make it into the systems for people doing a hardware upgrade.

So far the people that have had one have noticed that the traditional rooting methods don't work. It is using a different firmware (SGH-I896 vs. the SGH-I897 for AT&T)

I just thought I would start a thread on this forums for members of the community. I am waiting for the phone to appear in the system...and one will be sent my way.

Some points:

1) Apparently GPS "works" - take it for what its worth

2) Root doesn't work

3) Rogers is looking into the problems regarding the hardware upgrade problems

Some people are waiting to see if they can root it before they take the plunge.

Well...thats it for now! Hope there are some other people that are getting the Rogers Captivate

Yes..this would be ideal. Who do we contact?
There are alot of people in canada waiting for this phone (yes I know I don't speak for all of Canada...lol)

but...the interest is there

Here is a nice summary of some the features that are enabled as default (post from our friends over at XDA)

Quick Summary:

1) Side Loading is enabled by default
2) Mobile AP is enabled by default
3) No bloatware
4) Android Keyboard isn't there
5) Recovermy Mode works

Things to note:
1) No one has been able to root as yet
2) Likewise for unlocking..

Looks like we're good to go. Phil said he will create a sub-forum for the Canadian Captivate. No ETA, but it should be sooner rather than later.
