[ROM] Android Open Kang Project

So, after doing all the stuff I stated earlier, deep sleep is no longer an issue. I have barely used my phone (15-30 texts here and there with vibration on) since I'm at work this morning and I'm at 89% after 7 hours. I'm very impressed with this build and kernel. I'll report back how battery drain is when using WIFI and 3G/4G.

Update: WIFI doesn't drain as fast as it did in the past and the switch from 3G/4G has gotten better. Looking at the amount of views for this thread, it's not as nearly as popular like its counter-part on Rootzwiki. Or maybe AC just has the best members so we don't need to continually post stuff about this great ROM.

Just wanted to chime in on my personal results from b27. Coming from b21, nothing really jumps out at me as far as feature-wise that I would jump up and down about. I installed this ROM a few nights ago and the main thing that stands out is the battery life. This is by far the best battery life I have seen with any ROM yet on this phone. This time, I stuck with the stock kernel instead of right away plopping the Franco kernel onto it. I am glad I tried stock first. What a difference. I would have to say that there is probably a 30% gain in battery life over my last configuration. I think I will stick with this one until something earth shattering comes out.

stock kernel goes really well for me. i havent tried franco's or any other kernel in several weeks bc stock just plain works. i figure there's no need for me to try to squeeze out maybe ... 15 extra minutes of juice (if that) with a new kernel every three days. (unlike with, say, the thunderbolt, which practically required imo's just to scrape by).

I think I might wait on M4 release to come out before I update again .Roman had tweeted that b27 was almost going to be M4 so figure its not far off.

On a side note tornado came very close to my house at 238 am saturday moring .
It damaged 200 homes ,severly damaged another 50 and leveled 10 homes.
It was an F2 rated tornado winds of 137MPH.
Some kids where actually pulled out of one home and dropped back to ground.
If it had staid on orginal track would have hit me.
I Feel for those people and others in midwest, and south that lost family ,friends, and homes.
Still kinda freaked out about this tornado outbreak :(

From all the positive comments on this ROM, I took the plunge last night and installed the AOKP b27. Coming from Codename Android, which I enjoyed. No problems at all with the install and restoring all my apps. Started tweaking some of the settings this am and can't seem to figure out how to change the signal strength color. I see the setting under ROM Control and when I change the color it still have the two different shades of gray for my signal meter. I did enjoy the contrast of the blue/gray from stock and on the Codename ROM. Any idea how I can get the signal bars to be blue again?

BTW. ROM seems very snappy and although it is early, battery life seems good.

Thanks
Bryan

The stock signal strength indicator in AOKP b27 is blue and gray, with blue indicating that your device is connected with Google's services. Try rebooting your phone to see if that fixes the issue. Also go into Settings/Rom Control/Signal/Signal Color and enter #ff33b5e5 in the hex field and see if that changes the color to blue.

I have changed the setting to different colors and it is still the grey/grey color. I entered the number you have above and then rebooted and still getting the same colors. If I am not mistaking, the first time the phone booted up after I installed the ROM, it was the blue/grey. Somewhere along the way, it changed itself to grey/grey. Weird.

That is strange. You can try reflashing after wiping just cache and Dalvik without wiping data.

Glad to read that you and your family are safe. My thoughts & prayers go out to all the people who were affected by this tragic event.

I have found another issue that I have encountered one other time with a different rom. Gmail doesn't automatically sync. I flashed the recommended google apps from the website. Anyone else having this problem? Any solutions?

Thanks

Sounds like you may have had a bad flash. Gmail has been working fine for me the past couple of builds. Did you check the md5 checksum of the ROM and Gapps file before flashing?

Not sure I know what you mean by checking the md5 checksum? So I guess I didn't .

md5 is a character string that will be posted with the download - basically, download the rom and then "check" the md5 sum (that character string) to make sure they match - this ensures that the download was not corrupted and it is in fact the file you meant to download in the first place.

what kind of cpu do you have? there's different ways to check md5s. you can also do it on your phone with Astro file manager, etc and there is also a md5 checker app - ummm blanking on the name right now ...

hashcheck? hashdroid? something like that

Hashdroid is a free Market app that can compute an md5 checksum of a file. I usually download ROMs directly to my phone and Hashdroid has a feature where you can easily compare two checksum values. So my procedure is as follows:

1. Download file
2. Copy the md5 value from the download page by copying and then pasting into one of the fields in the Compare Hashes tab.
3. Go to the Hash a File Tab and compute a checksum from the downloaded file.
4.Copy and paste into the Compare Hashes tab and compare the checksums. 5. Profit!

If the checksums don't match your download is bad so don't flash it. Try downloading again.

I have root explorer on my phone. Will that work or do I need astro file manager? If I go into root explorer and long press the zip file of the rom then select properties it calculates the md5 file and then shows the string you are talking about. I can do that to both the rom zip and the gapps zip. Not sure I follow you as far as "matching" them?

Ok, my md5 for the rom zip file matches. The md5 for the gapps does not match so what do I need to do to fix this? Obviously, re download and reflash the gapps, but what do I need to wipe/do prior to the flash?

make sure you get the gapps that goes with b27, (should be on the same dl page), then you can wipe cache partition and dalvik cache and flash gapps you should be straight.
