Installation Instructions (For Dummies)
*I strongly recommend you take advantage of A2SD and the extra internal storage that comes with it!*

Intro:
This rom uses A2SD to optimize internal space.
-A2SD when used properly will increase Internal Storage a ton. (I've currently got 180mb of free Internal)
-A2SD works by creating symbolic links and moves the majority of app data to the sd card as well as dalvik if you want.
-This rom uses A2SD by default (if you partition properly)...removing the sd card will cause a loss of Apps added outside of the rom itself.
ie user apps.

However, the use of a2sd will not degrade performance at all...it simply frees a ton of internal storage.

You Need To Download AreaRomQ v1.3.zip
YOU DO NOT NEED TO REPARTITION THE SDCARD IF YOU HAVE CREATED AN SD PARTITION IN THE PAST!!!

Section One:
Okay so you want to use A2SD... AWESOME!

Follow These Steps Exactly!!!
Step 1:Backup all the data on your sd card you want to save to your computer.

Step 2: Reboot into recovery/Boot into recovery
(You do so by powering the phone off. Holding down the physical home button below the screen,
the volume rocker down button, and finally the power button all at the same time until you enter
ClockWorkMod (CWM) recovery)

Step 3: In CWM/ClockWorkMod recovery go to the advanced option and select "Partition SD Card"

Step 4:Select your partition size. (I recommend 512mb though 1024mb will work depending on what you're trying to do)

Step 5:Select a 0mb swap partition size. (Swap is more harm than beneficial. DONT USE IT!)

What you did here was create an ext4 partition on your sd card for a2sd to use.

Step 6:Go to Mounts and Storage in CWM and select "mount USB storage"

Step 7: Restore your sd card data.

*Including the rom you want to flash*
IF EVERYTHING HAS GONE RIGHT UP UNTIL NOW PROCEED TO STEP 8... if not start over...

Step 8:Go ahead and wipe cache/wipe dalvik cache and wipe data/factory reset.

Step 9:Flash your rom... (install .zip from sd card)

Step 10: When the phone boots up enter your account information and let it sit until sync finishes...
-i.e. let the phone sit for a few minutes after putting your account info in.
(Your signal bars will be cyan and the sync icon will dissapear from the Notification/Status Bar)

Step 11: Open Terminal Emulator (It's preinstalled!) and type "su" *without quotation marks* and press enter.
-Grant Terminal Emulator SuperUser Permissions (HIT YES)

Step 12: Type "a2sd cachesdreset" and hit enter.

The phone will now reboot. It will take awhile...don't panic! The phone is moving and building Dalvik-Cache onto the SD.

Step 13: I recommend rebooting the phone after moving dalvik to the sd. Meaning... you let the phone boot up after it reboots from
the "a2sd cachesdreset" command. Then reboot the phone one more time. This helps the phone get adjusted to the rom and all the
benefits that come with it. :)
Thats it! A2SD is now properly enabled and working *Go ahead and check your internal storage :)*
Proceed to restore your TiTanium Backup of your apps...
In TiBackup hit the menu key and select Batch. Then Run "Restore Missing Apps With Data"
---Thats it :)

Congratulations you're now running AreaRomQ v1.3 with A2SD enabled!!!

Yeah it wasn't public yet... I just released it publicly. In order to give donators some incentive for donating we release to them for a few days before we release publicly. But it's now public. its now available for download :) enjoy!!!

ok i found the link did the partition and everything. did a back up and installed the Area ROM 2.3. it only took like a min and now its stuck on a screen that says fastbootmode started udc_start()
whats going on and why wont it boot. should i try and re-flash it?

dude i cant even get my phone to boot into recovery after i pull the battery. please help me!!!! someone

Dude... you put a precedent rom on your q. The current arearomq release is v1.3. I really don't know what to tell you if you can't get into recovery. You'll need to talk to amazinglarry. He's the only one I know that's installed a recovery from fastboot on the q. You downloaded a rom not from my link above. I want to make it clear to anyone who reads this arq v1.3 is well tested and will not cause the error above. He flashed a rom not for his phone rather than waiting for my download link and reading.

Hey Jcole, I searched google for arearomq v1.3 and was taken to android central. Is this the new place you'll be posting your roms, or am I out of luck?

ok so im having a huge problem trying to install .apk files off of my sdcard. i put the .apk file on the root of my sdcard go to useing astro and try to install it but my phone freezes and the restarts.. i have no idea how to fix this. its done it to me with two different apk files. the first time i had to reflash the ROM for my phone to work. anyone have any ideas on how i can install those files with out my phone dying???

You're doing crap wrong dude... Also, I've reupload AreaRomQ v1.3 and made a few changes. YOU NEED TO FOLLOW THE SETUP INSTRUCTIONS EXACTLY!

You also need to make sure UNKOWN SOURCES is checked off in settings - applications. I have no issues with this... you're not doing something right.

idk what it was or whatever but i got it. i think it had something to do with ADW launcher cus i had a theme for it but idk im not shore but its working now so owell. ha thanks anyways

Am I the only one who has found my Home and Menu buttons switched?

Also, I set the partition for app2sd at 1024 mb. That is not what I have available to me as internal storage (I have somewhere around 150 mb after my apps are restored). Am I misunderstanding what that partition was for? I was able to use app2sd before on the stock rom without a separate partition.

...If you're home and menu buttons are switched. it means you did NOT read my initial post and see that this is for the LG Optimus Q not the VM Slider. Also, to use a2sd you need to have an extra partition. Trust me on this man, I've been doing this stuff for awhile now. A2SD is different than the built-in apps2sd. And you'll see the awesomeness of it if you did what I said. You set your ext4 partition larger than I recommended as well. And unfortuantely resizing it is not so easy. You will not see your internal storage match the size of your ext4 partition with a2sd. Thats a kernel /data to /sd-ext link that has nothing to do with a2sd at all. While that may be a part of future releases of AreaRomQ its not at the moment. I'm not trying ot come off mad in this, but I'm getting aggravated at the errors because people aren't reading everything.

To sum it up, A2SD does not equal Apps2SD completely different thing all together. You flashed a rom for a different phone onto your device... and you set your ext4 partition double what I recommend for the average user.

Gotcha, I guess I misunderstood the post. The subject line from the forum doesn't indicate that the ROM isn't for the slider and the text under "instructions" doesn't mention it either. I had assumed (wrongly) that the mention of the Q above was a carryover from this ROM being originally for the Q and then ported/converted over. The instructions begin underneath the screenshots and there is no mention there about it being for the Q only. I figured if I'm in the Optimus Slider forum any ROM posted is going to be usable on the Slider. I guess i'm still learning the way this forum works.

I did follow the instructions exactly. Interestingly everything works perfectly with the exception of the buttons being switched. I had taken your recommendation of the partition size to be a discretionary matter based on how much SD card space you want to spare, not "use this size unless you have a reason not to". Is there a reason I shouldn't be using 1024? In any case I'm not really concerned, it's a 32gb card. I believe the a2sd thing is working as you intended since on the stock ROM I had about 15 mb free space (and had every app installed on the SD card when possible) and I now have about 150 free with most apps still installed on the phone (rather than SD).

Any plans to release a version specifically for the Slider? I really dig this ROM so far. The only issue seems to be the buttons being backwards. I haven't found any other snags yet.

Thanks for the response btw, and no worries. I appreciate your help!

It should work fine but I do not know how long it will work with a q kernel on it. You can manually change the keymapping or you can flash gingerkernel and it should fix the keymapping for you. A2sd automatically moves ur /data apps to the sd-ext. It tricks the phone into thinking its internal but its not. If you go to applications and use apps2sd to move them to the sd ur internal storage will not change because they're already moved... the phone doesn't know that though. I hope this helps.

Also... id gladly make a rom for the slider, but I don't have permission from team androidarea51 to do so. Another member of our team is working on arearom slider at the moment.

Gingerkernel fixed the buttons, in fact it also seemed to smooth out the whole interface quite a bit. Unfortunately it also broke the wifi... :-( I've reverted back to the "stock" ArearomQ 1.3. I'll investigate remapping the buttons and if I can't figure it out I suppose I'll deal for now.
