ROM edit - how

Do u guys have some tutorial about roms which are not just ziped, about roms with img files. I hope u know what i mean. I know how to edit, sign rom for my old HTC Hero, just rar, edid system folder or other stuff..than sign rom and happy flashing.

But now, in new GS2 i have no idea how to open files. Unrar contains img and other files. As i know i need Linux... whats next? is there any tutorial?

If GS2 is like the GS1, there are two ways to flash ROMs: via a zip file with ClockworkMod Recovery, or via a tar file with Odin. When I built my ROM, I started with a stock deodexed base (zip file), unzipped it, made my modifications, rezipped it (with no compression), and thn flashed it in CWM.

My problem is, i want edit files in rar but have no idea how to mount/extract files in rom.
Inside rar are 4 files, boot & sbl - part of bootloader + cache and factoryfs,

how to open factoryfs?
