Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-BETA-4

I got to say that cm9 is SUPERB! It has really breathed new life into my epic. I am running into something that I feel is a bug. In my Office we have an open wifi network that does not broadcast it's ID. In the past with Stock Gingerbread I would simply type in the name of the network and it would find it. I am not having any luck doing that on CM9. Any Thoughts?:(

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-BETA-4

I should add that I have not had any problems with other wireless networks. All the others have worked super. I do not have any other networks I can try that are not broadcasting though.

I have not had this problem running CM9 ever (my friend's router is set up similarly.)

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-BETA-4

Just installed Beta 4 and it borked my phone a bit. Lost the ability to open play store, voicemail and gmail. Tried fixing permissions and that didn't work. Tried reinstalling those apps, only voicemail was fixed. Was unable to open gmail or the play store. Would flash on the screen then immediately close.

Only way I found to fix this is to wipe the phone and reinstall Beta4, gapps and voicemail.

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-BETA-4

Looks like they forgot to add the music player! Anyone else have the same problem??

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-BETA-4

Nevermind guys, I see that the music player is no longer there because its been replaced with Apollo.....PRETTY COOL!!

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-BETA-4

Anyone noticing problems running any sort of music app, like Apollo, Pandora, or PowerAmp? Installed beta 4 yesterday and they kept closing on me, did a complete return to stock and reinstall but still having the same problems.

Update, perhaps it was a bad download, redownloaded beta 4 and did a complete wipe back to stock and worked my way back up. So far everything is working again. A friend suggested i should defrag my microSD card but ive never heard of anyone doing that.

Are you talking about the correct device? We have no EL29 build. Once we have that out of the way I'll more than happily run you through updating. Are you on the Epic 4G with the keyboard or the Epic Touch with no keyboard?

Same here. I'm so glad I found the Cyan altogether. It's the most perfect rom I've used so far. :)

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-BETA-4

Firstly I love cm9. But can anyone explain why did they remove the music player? I know that they replaced with Apollo, but I don't like Apollo one bit. It doesn't show me my album covers and it does not look good at all.

Are you sure? Mine shows the album covers and more.

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-BETA-4

I am a "newbie" and just bought a Samsung Epic 4G (not Touch) from Sprint yesterday and I will get it Wed., but it is shipped with Android 2.3 and I want 4.0 ICS. The only way I see to do it is to root it and use the new Beta4 CyanogenMod CM9. As I said, I am new to this and have NEVER tried rooting a phone, but after reading the forums and watching these 2 videos by QBKingg77 "How to install ClockWorkMod 5.0.2.7" and the "How to install CyanogenMod 9 ICS" I think I can do it. My questions are:
1) Is installing the CyanogenMod 9 something a "Newbie" can do, is it pretty safe and easy?
2) By following the instructions in these 2 videos the best way to get ICS on my new Epic?
3) Is it worth doing this to get ICS on my phone or will the stock 2.3 be OK?

Thanks for your help, I can really use your advice.

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-BETA-4

The answer is yes you can do it. Is it worth it? Most definitely. If you follow his videos you shouldn't have any problems. There are others here with much more experience. I think they will tell you the same thing. It is really hard to brick an epic. If things go wrong you can always use odin to get it back

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-BETA-4

@dpass,

ekincaid is right, very hard to brick an epic....still, make sure both your device + pc batteries are at least 50% (just in case), + you would be well advised to acquire a Blackberry microUSB cable as there is a high probability that your stock samsung mUSB will cause issues.....just sayin' :)

As for your install from stock FC09 Gingerbread to CM9_beta4 ICS Android 4.0.4, the following is a very brief how-to.....trust me, there are several other ways to do this but this is fairly generic:

REMEMBER: making changes to your device is 100% a choice YOU make, no one else to blame if YOU change the karmic course of your beloved device from good to bad..............stay awake + profit!

[1] See links below, download necessary files to pc + place CM9_beta4 file into your downloads folder on microSD Card (this requires you to connect your device to pc, ensuring all necessary drivers are in place for your upcoming session w/ ODIN; .....also, give the ODIN thread a good read, then:

[*] BACKUP
[2] Power OFF device
[3] Device to Download Mode by pressing '1' + Power Button at same time
[4] Open ODIN on your pc, connect device to pc using mUSB cable, make sure ODIN detects your device as connected
[5] ODIN CWM5.0.2.7 Recovery (place 'CWM5.0.2.7' file in 'PDA' slot + select 'PDA' ONLY, do not select 'autoreboot' then click START.......await for ODIN to complete cycle (**DO NOT STOP this process, as this could very well brick your device**)
[6] when CWM install is complete, in ODIN you'll see the word 'PASS' in green > disconnect device from PC > pull battery from device for a few seconds, place battery back into slot
[7] then 3-finger boot to CWM Recovery ('down' button, 'camera' button + 'power' button simultaneously....then from CWM Recovery:
[9] flash CM9beta4 by (this will modify your CWM to 5.5.0.4 MTD + establish SU root)
[10] while still in CWM Recovery, after CM9_beta4 install completes........flash GApps20120429 file
[11] boot to system
[12] CM9_beta4: establish gmail settings + if you have apps stored on PlayStore......from PlayStore, install selected apps one-by-one (play store/menu/MyApps).............etcetera.

CWMv5.0.2.7 is here:
[RECOVERY] ClockworkMod 5.0.2.7 BML Officially supported by ROM Manager for Epic 4G - xda-developers

ODIN is HERE:
[How to] Restore a semi-bricked Epic or any software issue. Restores BML from MTD too - xda-developers

GApps is on OP + also HERE:

I realize there's many more ways than ONE to skin a grape, hope this helps :D

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-BETA-4

Thanks for the detail sonarchist,

This is a brand new epic 4g (not touch) actually I don't even get it from Sprint until Wednesday) so I have no apps nor anything to back up, so I just have to follow your #s 2-6 in order to install ODIN CWM5.0.2.7 Recovery, which is this file

cwm-5.0.2.7-epic4g.tar.md5 tar flash for odin, from your link: [RECOVERY] ClockworkMod 5.0.2.7 BML Officially supported by ROM Manager for Epic 4G - xda-developers

Then I follow steps 7-12 and the install instructions from here:

Cyanogenmod Epic 4G: CM9 Install Guide

Is that right, those are my steps?
