Re: [ROM][Jellybean][08/02/12]CyanogenMod 10 [Beta 3]

Hey now. chris is an amazing developer. unfortunately a mistake was made on the kernel he made. thats the risk we rooters take. nothing is ever 100%.

Hey, just being honest. Even XDA mods agree with me that people should steer clear of that.

It's like a Windows dev, developing for Apple...

not getting a deep sleep, most likely due to extreme amount of los. I get it about 2-3 minutes after reboot. temps are better. havent seen it go past 100 degrees. no wakelock yet though so good progress there

ok so the wake locks are better at least. LOS is a tough nut to crack. Ill continue my hacking :D

Flashed your kernel with modem FG20, and haven't experienced LOS yet, nor wake-ups yet. I'll report back with results at 1:00PM EDT.;)

Okay ... let's try to use some facts when we make statements or claims. Your personal opinion is fine, but there's no reason take a dig at a developer who's been doing work on our phone since release.

chris doesn't need the phone to create kernels for our device. Your analogy doesn't hold water, as he's developing Android for an Android phone. The only downside is that he can't personally test his work right away ... much like DK2 couldn't while he was pumping out updates to this ROM while he was waiting for his replacement to come. Did that make DK2 also incapable of developing? No, obviously not.

Also, the fact that he doesn't own a E4GT had nothing to do with the the emmc brick vulnerability in his previous kernels. There was a patch mismerge in the source code that inadvertently removed one of the layers of brick security. When not there, this layer makes the phone vulnerable to a EMMC brick when flashing a ROM who's update binary was not also patched for safety in the ext4 utils. It's rare but it CAN happen.

So let's get some stuff clear hear so we can move forward on development and not make silly claims ...

1) You can wipe data and flash anything from either internal or external storage
2) Flashing from one of chris41g's latest kernels (R10-CWM6 or RC11-TWRP) is perfectly safe
3) When in doubt, best practice is still to do your wiping and flashing from a GB based kernel/recovery until we have a JB kernel/recovery that is guaranteed to be patched for EMMC lockup safety.

Ok, I'm still getting the deepfreeze when connecting to computer. Maybe, I have some bad drivers, which is causing the DF on the phone?

Running Beta 3 pretty smooth, can I install Sprint VVM?

Well that's what you get for using a kernel that is developed by someone who doesn't even own the device they develop for. :)

you my friend, are full of ... if you have ever used CWM on this device, you have used my work. If you have ever used CyanogenMOD on this device, you have used my work. If you have used a custom kernel on this device, you have used my work. I did a TON of work on this device before I ever owned it. The community bought me a device, I never asked for one, I never asked for donations. EVER. I bricked that device recently, developing for the same community who GAVE me the device because the like my work. Its not EMMC bricked, its a bootloader brick. If you can find someone doing better work on this device than me, then so be it. But trying to sling mud on my name, when you aren't doing for the community is pathetic. I'm still waiting on your releases?? My work without the device is miles beyond your work WITH the device...

Hopefully you won't need to use my work on any device I develop for, but that list gets pretty short.. and includes a lot of samsung devices, and Nexus devices, as well as commits to official CWM, and TWRP.. as well as CyanogenMOD..

Im done here, you can say anything about me you want, but next time you say my name, put mr in front..

Not that safe from internal SD. Many have reported brickings as a result of flashing from internal storage. ALWAYS use External SD.

IM hoping this is not always the case.. Has it always been like this?

Read the posts after his. This no longer applies. It was a temporary error on Chris's kernels from a mismerge.

Also, it has ALWAYS been safe on things like the EL26 kernel and the EL29 DirectBoot
