I installed the recovery through ROM manager on my optimus s and I used the optimus v for my phone model, everything went fine. The menu button made screen go blank and camera button worked. I didnt try to restore a backup so I dont know about that. I got a little scared because i didnt choose my actual phone model so i started a thread to get advice. I was told it wasnt a good idea to use it and that I should go back to Xionias recovery. Thats what I did. Now, when I fire up Rom manager it doesnt ask me to install clockworkmod. I can look through the downloads in the "download roms" section but it just shows SU and Gapps, no ROMS. I dont have the premium version of ROM manager but I would think there would be at least one ROM available.
One other thing is that im running scott pilgrim right now and I have run aospcmod before and it might just be me but scott pilgrims is 10x better, More stable and less buggy, I get MMS but i cant send it, tho ive only tried once and wifi tethering doesnt work. Thats it. If I need a hotspot I just restore Reborn ROM.
So, why is ROM manager letting me in if i dont have the official CWM? Should I use ROM manager with Xionias, and if i try it will I permabrick or something? I dont mind hanging at the splash screen, as long as i can get back into recovery.

Just tried sending a pic to my wife and it worked! Only thing not working is hotspot. Scott pilgrims rocks!

ROM Manager just isn't used here to install ROMs or Recoveries. If you look around there are some programs here to isntall ROMs for the Opti-S, but ADB is the preffered method in all the stickies for installing Recovories and ROMs

I've rooted, and now hesitant about the custom recovery. I can't figure out how to get the SDK tools correctly installed on my linux machine... can't figure out the tgz install .. and/or getting the pathways correct. So that in itself will prohibit me getting to the adb shell. correct?

I just love it when people continue to use Rom manager that IS NOT SUPPORTED here. Then wonder why they have problems. All they need to do is FOLLOW the supported theads in the RECOVERY. ROM & KERNAL thread.
